A great coming-of-age story where not only do the two boys learn to appreciate life, but the grown-ups do as well. A wonderfully spun tale by Ray Bradbury.

Sometimes you read a book that leaves you breathless and at the same time, makes you feel like you completely missed THE point, the big one, the answer to all the questions you will ever have. This is that book for me.

I really wanted to love this book, I really did. But honestly, it took me months to read. I loved Bradbury's short stories. This novel, however, didn't hold my interest. The style of writing was very flowery, for lack of a better word. Something that could be described in 2 sentences took up 2 pages. The premise of the story was great - just the type of story I would think I'd be interested in. Who wouldn't love a story about an evil carnival coming to town? Well, in the end, I didn't. Sorry, Ray!!

There's nothing like savouring the prose of Bradbury. He's so inventive with his descriptions and words. This is a perfect book to read as summer comes to an end and the cool Fall days set in.

A great classic! Bradbury does a great job making the carnival a dark and scary place, as well as age, boyhood and the innocence lost in childhood as one grows up. Young, old, we're all wishing for what we don't have, and this is what Cooger and Dark, the carnival owners, love to prey upon.
