I was bitterly disappointed by this as well. Banks has written far superior books than this.

Odd book this - moments of fine writing, but generally a little confused, without the complexity that would warrant such confusion! Not his finest hour.

Iain Banks is one of my favourite writers. Every one of his books is a treat. And in this one he once again proves how good he is at figuring out the workings of a female mind.

A Very disappointing novel from Iain Banks. A poor imitation of The Bridge.

Not his best novel in my opinion but still bloody good. Revealed a slightly scary possible flaw in my character, but I plead bias in reacting more to the destruction of one cello than to the killing of many peple in this story.

Full of hopelessness and helpless violence. The escaping adventure of the cellist Hisako from terrorist at Panama. The second half of the book was very exciting and full of action. An action packed story that reads a bit different from classical Iain Banks. A fun try nevertheless.

Not his best. Usually an Iain Banks book is not like any other. This book IS like any other story. It's formulaic. And predictable! You know how Mel Gibson's character in Lethal Weapon dislocates his shoulder on purpose early in the film to make it plausible that he do it late in the film to escape? Well, imagine if there were about 12 or 20 such early revelations about the central character and every one of them came out in the cliamx, one after another. Puh-leeze!
