This is the most amazing book I've ever read. Margaret Atwood has the capability of writing to your heart as well as making you hungry for every next word. This particular book is a true story, with the bits and pieces putting it all together with Ms Atwood's brilliant style.

Couldn't even get through the Handmaids Tale at school, but Alias Grace was really awesome. I was very invested in this character's mysterious way.

I gave up after 20 pages. This was awful! Too bad, because the plot seems interesting. Oh well. Very disappointing.

Quite possibly this book is Atwood's best. It delves deep into matters of human consciousness, and questioning/exploring that consciousness, while giving the reader a decent little lesson on explorations during a time when psychology was still very much considered a spiritual science. Beautifully spun tale weaves together the two main characters, and, typically Atwood, does not make for a wonderful, heart-thumping ending. Damn good stuff.

Murder mystery/drama. The author does not give away wether Grace was guilty or innocent of committing a double murder. The sense of reality is toyed with.

Fictional account based on true events. Interpretation seems feasible. Grace comes across as likeable and honourable. Did she do it?

Atwood seems to specialize in presenting female characters as more complicated than one might assume - this is no exception, though one of her less compelling projects. It is also a well-researched interpretation of an obscure piece of Canadian history. The reader may determine whether that makes it more or less interesting.

I'm usually not the biggest fan of Atwood, but Alias Grace was an extraordinary book. I read it a few years ago and I really recommend it.
