this book had me hooked from page one to the very last sentence. jon krakauer has shown that he is a wonderful, perceptive writer that can tell a very well researched story. I love how he combines history and character development into a very personal memoir.

This book is wonderful..Even if you think it is not your kind of story, you will be drawn in by the bravery of the climbers who went through all kinds of hell on Mount Everest. It takes a special kind of person to even attempt such a thing. I especially enjoyed reading about Scott Fischer. Although he was one of the climbers who lost his life on Mount Everest, I found myself amazed with him. This book really makes you appreciate what we have. When you read this book, the author, Krakauer, gives such a detailed and interesting description of each of the climbers on the mountain during the disaster. Each of their personal stories is unique. Every one of them had their own reasons for taking on Mount Everest. The survivors have all coped and dealt with the aftermath in their own ways as well. The book also touches on the sherpas who risked their lives to make sure other climbers were helped out during the ascent. I highly recommend this book. Krakauer's writing style is one of a kind. Also, as a side note, if you can find the special edition of this book, it is filled with wonderful pictures and additional details!

Simply stunning book about the 1996 Everest tragedy. Beautifully written with great pace and building of tension. You don't have to be a mountain freak to enjoy it.

This book was something else. Terrifying, educational...amazing. The writing was so thorough I felt as if I was trudging up an icefield on Everest, hearing the cracking of my crampons with each step, feeling the icy wind pelt my exposed face. I really enjoyed this book. (And no, the highest I will ever go is Mt. Rainier - no Sherpa required!) Reading Into Thin Air inspired me to re-read Into The Wild as well. :)

I read this again for the second time... my interest peaked again recently as I began to climb some of the local peaks. Wow, what a story: the drama, the characters, the tragedy. I loved reading this book post Rainier. I should be running the other way, but instead I am left dreaming of Everest. I want to add my name to the list of climbers that have successfully and safely summited that mountain!
