Atwood was my favorite writer growing up and I still find her fiction exquisitely crafted and intriguing to read, but sometimes my brain wanders while reading her books in the past couple of years.

This book is taking me forever to read... my goodness. Its pretty bland so I pick it up when I got nothing else. Its ok and I guess has nice feelings attached. It has the best title but its really just a feel good book thats pretty hard to get though. I do plan to finish it one day.

I felt like atwood was the protagonist and i was fascinated to have such an intimate and diverse telling of a person's life, whether she wrote herself in or not, it's a very intimate book. I was touched by the protagonist's humility bearing witness and engaging with her parent's death/dying, raising step-children, raising a farm and being in a complex situation with the man she loves. Eagle-eye writing: such precision! I was left with feeling: this is really it. this run at life right now.

Margaret Atwood lite, not recommended for first timers. While it lacks the occasionally baffling sexual politics that characterise her early books, it also lacks any kind of sting. A fairly pleasurable read, but unfortunate that the greatest thrill is figuring out the connections between the stories.

So-so. Can't decide whether it's a novel or a set of short stories.

I am only half way through it so far, but it is an interesting collection of short stories in classic Margaret Atwood style.

It is a well written book that is for sure. I mean it is still Margaret Atwood. However, this is certainly not one of her best. I couldn't finish this book, in part, becaue I think the ideology behind it is a little outdated. I thought by 2006 the kind of feminist thought Atwood had gained recognition for would at least evolve into something more suitable to this day.

I've never read any of Atwood's previous work so I didn't have a lot of expectations going in. That being said though, I loved this book. I love how each of the different stories had their own emotional tone. At times I thought it dragged a bit, but that's true of almost any book. I also loved how Atwood covered such a vast amount of time. My favorite stories had to do with Nell living on the farm with Tig (the horse in particular, that really stood out for me) and the story about Oona and "the entities." All in all, it was a surprisingly good read and I would recommend it to anyone.

Atwood's impeccably witty yet (and I hate using this word to describe the work of an author who is so pithy and dry - both in real life and her stories) touching style returns again in a series of short stories that follow, among other characters, Tog and Nell. I think I can list Nell as my favourite Atwood character, even better than the woman/bat from Good Bones.

I'm going to get back to why I call it touching - Atwood manages to retain her wit and bite even as she documents an unsteady relationship (complete with frightening ex) and a few people growing old and losing their selves, always steering away from sentimentality, which winds up making the emotional moments more heartrending.

Oh, and this woman's turn of phrase - wow. Her descriptive powers are stunning, and the bit where Nell talks about the horse left me in stitches (I was lucky enough to hear her read it live last fall at a literary festival).

Another great piece of work from Margaret Atwood, as the last reviewer said I really enjoyed the chapter/story; My Last Duchess...
It was interesting to see through the stories and various characters, the seemingly "simple" turn into the those moments that define life and love.

Loved this book. The style is typical of Atwood: chilly breeze with a hint of hangman's humour. The content seems to be much more autobiographical than usual. The writing is more conventional than say in the Tent (the later being poetry in prose).

I think the very first story was one of my favourites in this collection.

Oh, and going on a tangent, I loved the term "grazing" as applied to eating while standing up (at receptions and stuff). As a friend of mine (newly arrived from Russia) commented, you become American once you learn the invaluable skill of simultaneously holding your plate and drink, eating and talking, while standing up.

many short stories all intertwined. some stories seemed to be continuations of the prior tale only from either a different perspective or a different narrator. the stories mostly surrounded a girl/woman who is always wondering whether all her past choices have hurt herself, her family and those around her.

I haven't read a lot of Atwood (Oryx and Crake and a few short stories) so I wasn't too sure what to expect. Overall it was a really good read. I liked how the stories fit together but could be read separately as well. The book left me with a sad feeling. Nell's situation was depressing and felt pretty hopeless.

On a side note, Atwood spoke at my school this year and was amazing! She is crazy and so tiny but so fully of spunk. She spoke on her book Oryx and Crake and environmental issues. If you ever get a chance to see her in person, do it!

Funny, subtle...like reading about a friend or relative's little life stories. I enjoyed it except for the overplayed farm sequences involving horses, etc.

moral disorder is a beautiful example of what a mature mind, unbound by the timidness of hearing other perspectives, can consequently arrive at!!!It discredits NOTHING from our personal experience,,,lending value to every single interpersonal encounter,,,every ticket sold at discount...

we, so often, subtact the significance of personal experiences from the sum total of who we are..but we can not escape ourselves no matter how hard we try.Moral Disorder is a series of examples of how we might try to combat the "self" trying to apply what we have learned. It Is a Very difficult lesson in life if not based on core trust.

it's brilliant, funny, and basically everything you've come to expect from atwood. i guffawed more than once reading the last few stories in the airport yesterday, much to the concern of other passengers. the common characters throughout make this a different type of short story collection (as opposed to dancing girls).

A series of interconnected stories chained up to follow the ups and downs of three generations of a family. I enjoyed the fun facts of farm life the story depicted. I just went with the flow and forgot the turn of pages. Very enjoyable, though the last chapter of this book still eludes me.
