a little slow in the beginning , i even put it down for a while . But, i feel like the ending was tied together in a way that he's been trying to do for a while .

I'll be honest, this book was not gripping. It did not grip my attention 'from the very first page', and it did not hold a great deal of my interest even after the first 150 pages. Here's why: Chuck Palahniuk is only too well known for his love of nitty-gritty detail and lengthy explanations, which I admit serve very well towards building his characters, but which unfortunately makes 'Rant' the type of book where a huge and exciting revelation about a character only comes up after the original conflict happened 50 pages ago (much like his other bestsellers, really.). Because of that, a reader will need either a brilliant memory to recall everything that was described before, or you have to read the whole thing in one go so you don't forget alot, OR if you're like me, you'll most probably have to turn back to where the details were (which is quite annoying, sometimes) to refresh your memory and feel the true impact of the revelation. That aside, however, because of the stark detail that Palahniuk puts into his writing, you know just from reading that this man is not one who does not take his profession lightly; this is an author who has certainly put a lot of painstaking research and thought into his work, and many times during 'Rant' I find myself just sitting with the book in my hands and thinking about the terrifying ideals and concepts he so bluntly presented in it. This book has everything the modern movie-goer would enjoy in a movie; violence, relationships, drama, mystery and suspense. And the ending will almost certainly make up for the weary factual descriptions you had to overcome throughout the entire book.

This was one of those books you're cursing at when it's two o'clock in the morning because you just can't put it down. It's taken some time to properly wrap my head around all the lingo and concept Palahniuk used, but when I finally understood everything, it blew me away. Purely spectacular!

Classic Palahniuk - twisted, funny, and oh so true. Nothing is ever straightforward in his books and knowing there is a prize at the bottom of the box keeps things rolling.
