Little bit confusing...Not as god as "Shadow of the wind" I could see connection between these two at the end...

If anyone's read this, I'd love to discuss it. It's a book written on multiple levels. On the surface, it's a mystery taking place in early 20th century Barcelona. Then there's the mystical level, who is David really? Who is the Boss? It's also a story about the power and importance of literature. Overall, I highly recommend it.

Please read. I had goose bumps and felt fear. I was not able to put it down. It still had me wondering at the end, just a little but thinking and thinking about it for days afterward.

Ok. But the plot gets tangled up in the end and it's not as great as "Shadow of the Wind".

It started out great but after about 1/3 of the way in the story started becoming unnecessarily complicated and convoluted. It needed a more thorough editing job to whittle it down to a core, tight story like Shadows of the Wind.

I'm really disappointed with this book. Yes, I am a big fan of Zafon's Shadow of the Wind, and although different is good, I don't like the direction the author took with this book. It's the same feeling I got when I read the fifth Harry Potter book the first time it came out--I felt like I was reading something made for a movie. The writing isn't as good and the book ends up being too long. The first half of the book did have me glued, but I started getting tired of the story about two-thirds of the way through. The story development is ridiculous too. I don't totally understand the connection between Diego Marlasca and the Angel in the end or the motives of the villain. Granted, that might be because I scanned through the rest of the book once I hit the two-thirds mark.

The most amazing book - brilliantly written, the characters will sweep you away, a non-stop page turner. I took it to a business conference - read it at the airport and flight outbound. It was so good that I re-read it on the return trip home - back to back readings in less than 1 week!
