So as one of the first books I'll review, I'll go with one of my favorite authors but perhaps one of his more obscure books. Lullaby is a pure fantasy novel, with various links to witchcraft, magic, and voodoo. But the compelling part of the story for me isn't only the plot, but the way that it's written. He writes his stories in such a way that it makes it seem like the brain of the person is writing the book rather than a person. With streaming thoughts on consciousness leaking onto the page. The story is great too. A man finds a mysterious poem, or "culling song" that has the power to kill people when recited. The only problem is he can't stop repeating it, and people all around him start to die. Soon he meets a woman who introduces him to a whole new world of magic, and the try to erase any copies that might remain of the poem. For me, this is my favorite Palahniuk book, and it gets better each time.

Having never read “The Fight Club” and only experiencing Chuck Palahniuk through a movie, I didn’t know what to expect of this book. The books is fast going, and explores the possibility of ultimate power. What can ultimate power do to different personalities and how it will affect them. In the case of Helen Hoover Boyle, a strong minded, strong willed woman, the power over took her not wanting to share it. In the case of Carl, the journalist, he ultimately feels guilty about the control he has over people.
The book is an adventure of trusting people, what can change and damage that trust. Do actions really speak louder than words? What would I do with that ultimate power? The book is about a “culling spell” that leads people to extreme relaxation and then death. It explores how holding someone’s life in your hands affects you, and what if everyone had that power? It is a great book, I wasn’t disappointed and would like to read more from this author.

Gritty and twisted, just like all his other books. This is a tale of a lullaby that can kill and how having some power only makes you hungry for more. You will never guess the end, the way he writes em you never will.

I loved this book. It is the First of his that I have read, but I plan on reading all of his stuff. My sister said that I should stay away from one of them... I can't remember which one, Stranger then Fiction I think it was called.

Not his best but creepy and imaginative. If you have kids and anxiety...skip it.

The story of an unwitting (or unrepentant) serial killer narrator, spurred on by a crooked real estate agent on a quest to find all the copies of a children's book, whose pages contain words that can actually kill.

For someone who believes in the power of fiction, Chuck has written a very sarcastically anti-book book.

Well, it is okay. Unique characters for sure, but I also have a distinct impression that Palahniuk is more of a prolific passing fad. I give him props for trying new narrative styles and having bold, in-your-face characters. Sometimes is actually works. Sometimes.

This book was creepy and eye-opening in a way that only Palahniuk can convey.
