One of my first-grade students pointed out the truth to me: this story does not stay "on the trail", so to speak, of keeping with a connected story. (Ironically, this fit very well with a lesson). And yet there is something incredibly fun about the random creatures trotting themselves out in all their quirky Suessian glory. So no, there is no logical plot, but we get fun pictures and dazzling rhymes that we love.

this is the FIRST BOOK i ever 'read'. learned to read reading DR. SEUSS with my dad. one of my fondest memories and STILL some of my favorite stories... loved that cat...he was slick, he was kind of rangy, he was a troublemaker. my attraction and love of errant, 'bad cats' hasn't changed much...guess it's true. everything i needed to know i REALLY DID learn in kindergarten.

My favourite Suess Book. I had to wait for weeks to read it when I was a kid. It was always signed out at the library.

The plight of the Red Fish is intriguing, yet fumbles within its own plot devices and never seems to go anywhere. The stasis of the main characters simply lie in its own birthing pool (pun intended) and in the end, as readers, we wonder why it was that we took the trip at all. (ed note: could be hidden nazi code. must look into it.)

Dr Seuss I didnt like his stuff as a child but got into his stuff when I had my own children. I love his stuff! A very fun read for the parent when the kiddies are still to young to read to themselves. Okay.. not the greatest review. I said stuff 3 times. The book is lyrical and the illustrations are colourful. A lot of fun for children too because they tend to memorize the book and then feel good because they can "read"!
