This is the first book that I have read that is set in Galilee during the time of Jesus. Interesting. Although written for 'young adults,' this is a book that can be easily enjoyed by grownups, too.

Wonderfully written. This story unveils the transformation in the spirit of a zealot living in biblical times. My son read it when he was 12 and I read it so we could discuss the book.

This was a really neat book. You saw the time of Jesus from a different perspective and couple actually. It was really good. A MUST READ!!

This was our final read aloud for the school year and we couldn't put it down. Kids often draw or fiddle while reading but they settled in and really got into this story.

I read this because my daughters were reading it for school. I didn't have any expecctations for it but found that it is a great book! It's and inspiring and uplifting story of a boy who had all odds stacked against him.

While this book was written for pre-teens and teens, I read it for an adult church book group. It covers life as it probably was in the time of Jesus. Despite being a quick read, many thought provoking points are made. I find myself pondering those points as they continue to crop up in my mind. It added depth to many facets of life in Jerusalem that I previously never paid much attention to.

Not a bad read for a reader of any age. The plot, involving youngsters in the age of Christ, is focused and believeable. The point is made without fuss and muss.

This is a great book to read at different ages. My 7th graders are reading it next month, and they'll understand one level. As an adult, I got an entire different appreciation of it. Read it and share it with a teen you know!

The story is about how a jewish boy seeks revenge on rome by joining a band of killing thieves but over time his hate is dissolved by Jesus's never ending love.

I was told that the 8th graders could not graduate without reading this book. From the cover, I wasn't really into it. But then I opened it up. And I ... met ... Jesus. The biblical stories were all intertwined with the fictional story that I really felt like I was there. It's such an eye opener when it comes to one's faith. Read it. You won't regret it. Read it!

I don't think I have what one might call a huge interest in Jerusalem. I'm pretty religious and I enjoy studying the religion, but what mostly drew me to this book was not the Jerusalem/Judaisim/Christ aspect but the fact that this was written by Elizabeth George Speare. But it worked well and I have to admire the woman from stepping out of New England for a captivating portrayal of a young man torn between a vow of vengeance and the redeeming power of love. Daniel is someone with whom everyone should be able to identify, determined to do what he feels is right and just. Even with all his intentions of fighting the Romans, he still comes off as an eighteen year-old boy with all of those thoughts and feelings. The writing, as usual for this great writer, is fantastic and detailed without being overwhelming. There is plenty of adventure which is well-balanced with the sweet story of Jesus Christ. Even so, I would not call this a proselyting book, but a piece of historical fiction of a boy who happens to be touched by Christ. I was deeply moved and impressed.
