The best Cornwell book in some time and one of the most readable. For me there's been two problem with the recent books-thatCornwell's never been afraid to show their battlescars which is great but which has taken the tole on the charactersand the mistakeof taking the story out of Virgina and struggling to find a place to belong. But this book goes some way to sole these and is just a cracking crime book to top!

Ever since the change in style I've not enjoyed these books. This one has now lead me to decide to give up on them. There are no characters that have any appealing traits, hence I don't care what happens to them. Such a shame as the first books were fantastic, why Cornwell chose to change from the first person to the third person I don't know but it was the kiss of death for these books!

I've read all of Cornwell's Scarpetta series, and while I have to say this was not a waste of time, it was kind of filler. There are interesting new csi techniques, compared to her earlier books. Cornwell is top-notch when in comes to research and detail; however, I think she needs to go back to her earlier books and find out why we loved her characters so much then, yet find it hard to engage with them now. I hope she will find her way back.

Enjoyed this book, despite the fact the characters had history (haven't read any of this series before), so although it left me wondering what had happened to the characters before I still enjoyed the read and may well be tempted to read another of Patricia's books.

Usually like Patricia Cornwell's books but this just seemed to be a bit dis-jointed & written in a rushed fashion. Why have 2 characters called Marino and Maroni? Couldn't she come up with less confusing names? Don't even know why it is called Book of the Dead, does not seem to be any such thing in the story. Dr. Self is a hoot, what a bitch, with lots to hide. Read the book through because I just wanted to see if it would actually end.

I was so looking forward to this book! I love Patricia Cornwell and the Scarpetta books are my favorites. But, then I started reading it and it felt a little dis-connected to me. Maybe I wasn't in the right frame of mind (I had just read Eragon - totally different genre) when I started it. In the end, I ended up liking the overall story, but I felt it jumped around a little too much and I had trouble following some of the early dialog. Usually when I start one of her books I'm into it immediately and can't put it down. I can't say that with this one.

Good return after Blowfly was such a disapointment i stopped reading her books for a while, but this one was a return to form. I cant help but think that she has a bit of a self destructive streak though, as she seems to have sucked the life
Good come back book from Patricia Cornwell,. after Blowfly was such a disapointment i stopped reading her books for a while, But this one is a return to form. The style of wriitng is back, although i cant help think she has a bit of a self distructive streak, as she seems to have destroyed and sucked the life and soul out of some of the characters which i think is a real shame. Good story though and back to good writing, suspense and gripping interesting storyline.

As with all Patricia Cornwells books if you allow it to be your only read for how ever long it takes, it is a full on scary story. I love them all!
this is the 1st after her actual real life forensic Pathologist friend whom she based her character on dies, and yet it lacked nothing of the previous, other than I kept on wanting to kill off the Italian Policeman, he was rude, patronising, over sexed, everything about a man I hate, and even though he came though in the end I still did NOT LIKE him!!!Good read. As per all

I missed Kay terribly! It was so great to read her again! I still can't believe the news about her and Benton... that has heartbreak written all over it! The Marino story killed me, I want to punch him in the face out of anger but then apply ice afterward out of pity. He is just such a sad figure... where is he? What's your theory? Either way, it was great! Dr. Self is a dirty whore and Shandy needs to get her ass and killer pussy kicked!

I've read all the books in the Scarpetta seriest and the most recent novels have been a little confusing. It is almost as if Cornwell knows these characters so well she assumes the reader does too. Well, if its been a year since you read her last book, you aren't going to remember the characters as well as she does. This books does not flow seemlessly like her earlier work and its hard to tell how much time has passed between each event because she changes the character who is telling the story. But I love the series and hope Marino comes to his senses. I predict Rose will die in the next book. So sad!

Its a novel that keeps you in graet suspence to the very last word. Unsolved series of unusual murder cases became a mystry to Dr. Kay Scarpeta and her gifted group, Italian Captain Boma, and mad Dr. SELF(ish) are the key players with Will Rambo ( Dr. SELF's son) at the centre of it all. A wonderful piece of work By Patricia Cornwell.

I was very disappointed with this one. I haven't read the previous two books so some of the plot was confusing but even without that problem I don't think I'd have found this a satisfying read. None of the characters was sympathetic and the plot was confusing. I also felt it was lazy of Cornwell to introduce a character named Maroni when she already has a longstanding character called Marino.

I am a Patricia Cornwell fan. Especially her 'Kay Scarpetta' books. So It was nice to see this one on the bookstore shelf.
Ummmmmm, hmmm. Okay, Cornwells books are usually very easy to get into, easy to read and page turners. This book was not. It started off well, but petered out and to be honest I battled to finish it. But I did. The forensic information is always complicated and interesting, but even this got too much for me. Very disappointing read!

I've always admired the way Patricia Cornwell portrays her characters. They are so real... faults and all. This one began very interesting yet I felt there were too many things going on and it became convoluted near end. I did enjoy it and may re-read it to make sure I didn't go through it too fast. I'm way sad about Marino. Looking forward to her next book to see what happens with everyone.

So far, I'm givin' this book 4 outta 5. I know by book's end it'll be a full star winner (again.) I've read many of her books and I must say she keeps the character Kay fresh and interesting. Most characters in any great series dull and become 'cookie-cutter'. Meaning, been there, done that a million different times with a million different books (give or take a few) ;)

I'm glad Cornwell's still writing Scarpetta, but I've gotta say, I'm weary of the de-evolution of Benton, Scarpetta and particularly Marino. Although it is nice to see Scarpetta's failings as a human being, instead of being always icily in control. And what's up with Benton? Maybe I misread him before, but he has always seemed so self-assured and suave, and here he's acting like a jealous teenage boyfriend. Part of me just wants Marino to eat his gun already and get it over with. He's been killing himself since book one and in this book he's bottomed out. However, this book may improve on a 2nd reading, we'll see.

As a long time Scarpetta/Cornwell fan, I wasn't overly thrilled with this one. It wasn't horrible, and if it was by any other author I probably would have thought it was pretty good, but somehow, it seemed rather tired. As disappointed as I was in Marino, I am still infinitely curious as to his outcome though. Not a bad read, but I would suggest just about any other Scarpetta book before this.
