I liked this book a lot and could not put it down - the ending however was predictable. This book really makes you think about your views, prejudices and behaviour towards other people... It takes place in the 60's and it's hard to imagine that life was like that only 50 years ago - hopefully humanity will only continue to improve with time...

Set in Jackson, Mississippi in the early 1960s, but eternally relevant. Beautifully drawn characters negotiate the scourge of racism and its universally destructive forces. Social injustice is put to rights in subtle, clever and effective ways. A real page-turner.

A new perspective on race relations and the civil rights movement. A great selection for book club which also led to interesting comments on modern motherhood, balancing family and career and the influence of other people in your life who may help to raise your kids.

Very interesting insight to a time that seems like it should have been so long ago but really wasn't. Really makes you reflect on how things have and haven't changed since the days of segregation. I enjoyed the characters and thought they were well developed.

At the risk of sounding hollywood....this really would make an incredible movie......powerful.....brilliant....and an opportunity to see some of the great women in hollywood do some awesome work.....
