If Nero Wolfe and Watson teamed up to embarrass a Frenchified Sherlock Holmes, it might look a little like this. Wildly unlikely melodrama abounds, as in so much of Christie, but it's all good fun, despite the narrator being something of a stick.

An excellent second book in the Hercule Poirot series. You can tell how the author has advanced as a writer. The characters are more developed and the personality of all really shine through. You get to know Poirot's personality a lot better and learn to appreciate more of his quirks and finds them very amusing. Lots of twist and turns which keeps you mentally stimulated through the whole reading.

The second Poirot novel, featuring the diminutive Belgian and his little grey cells picking apart a plot of breathtaking ingenuity (apart from the handy tramp) with deceptively simple reasoning that nevertheless leaves Hastings and the reader eager to keep up. Admittedly the romance is a little unbelievable (Hastings is often so stuck-up) but this is nevertheless an indication of the masterpieces to come.

Amazing. I would never have been able to arrive at the ending like Poirot did. Like Hastings, I had a few glimmers but failed to see the bigger picture.

quite possibly my favorite book by her i've ever read (including and then there were none!!) it comes full circle in a beautiful way. i loved it. the whole i'm going to throw over the person i've always loved for this attractive stranger motif was present in this one as well...but it didn't bother me like it did in some of her others. it was also more light-hearted (on the whole) than her later works...even though there is murder involved.

I read the entire Agatha Christie's collection as a teenager. I remember them as being very entertaining, and badly translated into Portuguese. And no, I did not have anything better to do at the time (or so I thought). Anyway, I loved the suspense, the middle-upper class settings , and a lot of the characters - not necessarily the detectives.

This plot is more than just a piece of land; it is far more embellished with aptitude and that bit of foolish romance and simple romance.
