I could read this one over and over. I first read it when it was a new release. I was sitting around waiting for jury duty, and was so engrossed I didn't notice the entire week I spent sitting in the courthouse (this was in the pre-call-in days). In fact, I remember being thankful that I was able to read for hours uninterrupted! An excellent book, great thriller. The part with Princess Di is a bit hokey in retrospect, but at the time, it was quite realistic.

More of a shoot-em-up than other Clancy books, not as much "insider information," and this makes this book one of the easiest reads that he has written.

First "Jack Ryan" novel, you kinda need to read it so you have background for later books, which imo are the best Clancy books.

Got to admit, I was surprised at the low level of reading in this book. I expected to find it a book written for adults, and found myself thinking I was reading a teen book, about adult things. None the less, a good book.

The whole Jack Ryan thing starts right here with an explosive confrontation with an Irish terrorist faction so extreme they deemed the IRA too mellow.
