Picoult books aren't supposed to be predictable. One of the reasons I favor her is because she keeps you guessing. The ending is usually something you'd never imagine and it leaves a lasting impression. In this story about an abusive husband the ending is exactly how you picture it to be. He doesn't change, she leaves. Yawn. I didn't get into the whole indian reservation get a way either. It's not like she was the Hollywood starlet who couldn't live unless everything she owned or touched was top of the line. She was thrown into the Hollywood world and never learned to adjust to her newly polished life. So, what was the point of the indian reservation? She didn't need to learn to simplify her life, or learn to live with the bare essentials. And again with the weird love triangle. I finsihed the book....but barely.

After reading one story after another where someone was jailed or murdered, I was so relief to pick up this book and discover that Picoult wrote about something else besides jails and death. This book made me look at abuse from the different angle. It is easy to make a decision or give advice to someone else. But would it be really that easy if it happened to me? A great book on marriage and relationships, and even money and fame.

True to form...Jodi makes you empathize with the villian. You want him to be better, you want things to work out -- against everything you believe in!

Very slow moving, and I didn't have the same connection to this book that I do to Jodi Picoult's others.
