Absolutly amazing book, not only does it get away from All of the paradox issues that time books usually drown in, but it is also a wonderous sense of pacing and beautifully human characters.

Not a traditional Koontz horror story. A bit of romance, a bit of action, and some science fiction combines for an interesting story. The beginning was very intriguing, but the book drags a bit in the middle. The dialog also isn't that great, and the character of Stefan, the guardian comes across a bit flat.

This book started off very slow, and didn't pick up until about halfway through. It was decent, though, as usual, Koontz displays his complete lack of skill at writing dialogue. Also, having Winston Churchill and Hitler as characters made me frown, though the rest of the storyline I liked. For me, Dean Koontz is a hit or miss writer, and, unfortunately, he mostly misses.

When I went into labour 13 years ago I bought this on tape to listen...lol. It is an action/timetravel book. It is amazing (and one of only very few stories on romance I love). I found this book in my late grandfather's house on a stack of books piled high..it looked spooky (where I found too) so finally I read it and I do every year. I wish it had been made into a movie. Is my Favourite book of ALL time. no pun intended.

I first read this book almost 20 years ago and have tried for ages to find a copy - failed in bookstores and Amazon, but play.com had one. I still enjoyed the story with the lead character growing up and being rescued again and again by her mysterious guardian. Can't work out why this was never made into a movie. Great time-travelling fun! (Last read January 2010)

I don't own this one yet, but I will. The plot was not at all what I was expecting going in to the novel, or even about a third of the way through...Koontz manages a nice plot twist here that made me jump out of my chair in amazement. I won't give it away, but this is a true Koontz masterpiece that few have heard of. READ IT!!!

This is one of my all time favourite Koontz books.It has everything; mystery, suspense, time travel, love interest, great characters and a brilliant plot. I read it without stopping. Unputdownable.

Dean Koontz is a good novelist for his genre. There's no denying his ability to spin a yarn as entertaining as anyone. "Lightning", however (one of his older books I picked up simply because of all the thunderstorms we've been having here in the south) is the written equivalent of "Jumping the Shark" as they say in the TV biz. The story of a SS Komandant jumping back and forth in time (using a time machine) and saving the human race and, in the process, saving the love of his life from getting murdered, is, to put mildly, hokey as heck. For his stories to work, Koontz must have the reader at least "buy" the story to a degree. There is nothing believable in this world he's created. The only thing that keeps it from getting one star is his description of Southern California; it's the only thing that maintains any sense of credibility. This book is utter nonsense that will elicit more laughs than chills.
