wonderful short stories... especially the one about the cupids tracking down people who weren't in love and making sure they didn't get away from their chance...even if it meant taking a beating..just great!

Strangely enough, although I am addicted to the Anita Blake series I just cannot get into any of Laurell K's other stories.....I hope she sticks to what she is good at and keeps me entertained with Anita stories forever!

Good collection of short stories from Laurell K. Hamilton, author of the Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series. The story Those Who Seek forgiveness is the first time Anita appeared in a story. Her knack in many of these stories is to introduce the supernatural into ordinary situations, such as the woman avoiding the arrows of of a pack of hunting cupids (A Lust of Cupids), the realtor who sells houses to the undead (Selling Houses), or the research scientists who study lake monsters and other enchanted creatures (A Scarcity of Lake Monsters). The stories from her Nightseer world are less satisfying to me, but that may be personal preference. Of these stories, Geese and Winterkill are the best. The two most interesting ones are the darkest. The Edge of the Sea tells the story of a killer in the form of a merman, or triton. Here be Dragons is the story of two equally terrifying people, a woman doctor and her child patient, both of whom have amazing psychic abilities, and both of whom are dangerous sociopaths. The collection ends with a vignette from the Anita Blake/Jean-Claude relationship dance. This one is perhaps the most erotic tale in the book, capturing the desire the vampire hunter has for her vampire lover--and he for her.

Laurell Hamilton is the author the Anita, Vampire Executioner series. In this novel Hamilton has put together a collection of short stories she has written. Some deal with Anita, some are first published stories! It was a very interesting read! I really enjoyed it, but you have to have an open mind to enjoy them! :D

Seeing these short stories by Laurell K. Hamilton was a treat. Some were good, some were great, and some can be skipped over. My biggest problem with the whole shebang is the cover. This book has nothing to do with women in bondage attire eating candy. Actually, this book has no sex in it at all. Which, when you think about it, is "strange" indeed when you consider the other series' that this author writes.

Overall, a pretty good read, although some of Ms. Hamilton's snarky comments in the introductions to some of the stories really didn't need to be included.

If you're a fan of Ms. Hamilton, you'll want to read STRANGE CANDY just to see how she handles short stories. If you're looking for another sex-filled Anita Blake or Meredith Gentry story, this isn't the place to find it.

And for those who feel the need to hide the cover of this book beneath a copy of Good Housekeeping, I don't blame you. The cover is there for shock value alone, nothing else. It doesn't apply to what's inside the book at all, and for that someone should be ashamed.

I love this collection, I really wish Hamilton would continue some of these stories or get back into fantasy novels. But very good, the mermaid one is really disturbing.

If you want to get a taste of Laurell K. Hamilton without plunging head first into her series, this is the book for you. A collection of short stories by the author that encompass all of her writing preferences and styles.

A mixed bag of shorts from Laurell, that really show what she can do without Anita in her pocket. This got my husband hooked on her writing. A definate must own for Laurell K Hamilton fans.
