What are readers saying about Blood Noir (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, Book 16)?

More Anita. More sex. More people trying to kill Anita, more of Anita killing other people. More pouting and stupidity from Richard. A Jean Claude who is nearing maudlin. Jason begging (again). Nathaniel wanting rougher sex (again). Men and women both bespelled by Anita's cuteness and charm (again...and, yet, what?).

Basically, for followers of the series, you'll read it, because even if someone told you it was made up of only three 20-chapter sex scenes, you'd still read it. But please, do yourself a favor and borrow it from the library. At least that way you can save your money, even as you give up your common sense.

One can’t help but wonder if Hamilton has just run out of steam and doesn’t know where to take her characters – the posturing is soap opera and, no matter how strong the technical side of the writing is (and it is), it is a poor excuse for novel writing and betrays a lack of heart.  Less vampire politics (meaning less Jean-Claude too unfortunately) but it's a good opportunity to learn a bit more about favorite werewolf Jason. The story is lighter for once (well it's close to Micah's) and Marmee Noir is not as present as the summary might suggest but Anita's powers are still evolving and I just can't wait for the next book now.

While it still missed the murder/mystery aspect that has been so absent for the last few books, this was really great. I'm glad to see that the next one seems to be going back to the format of the first half dozen or so books, but I really enjoyed getting to know Jason, who has always been one of my favorite characters. This book was different, and smaller in it's scope, since you really only had Jason and a couple other new characters. Made for a nice change of pace. I do have to say that, I really hope we aren't getting set up for another Anita-is-preggers plot arc... it's personally a turn off.

I'm disappointed by this installation. I sensed no character growth, my favourite side-character didn't show up (Edward), there was no story progression as far as I can tell other than what Richard gained, and our favourite Master of the City was barely mentioned in this one. It feels like this book was put out there for the sake of putting something out there. I would have waited months longer for something.. more.

A great new addition, and a solid return to Hamilton's 'older style.' I was glad to see a focus outside of just Anita and her relationships. Hamilton finally took her time and wrote something solid and fleshed out, which made me so happy after the disappointment I experienced over "The Harlequin." There were also plenty of twists and turns and new developments, none of which I want to give away here, but which were well worth the read. Good job, Hamilton! You've reminded me of why I started reading this series...

It was a little slow for the first 200 pages. It's all about Jason in this book. Sadly very little Jean-Claude and a brief appearance of Richard. The ending was great. It was much shorter than usual. It reminded me of Micah. I think it was just a filler book to set up for a longer installment next time. I finished reading this book in less than six hours. Easy read. Three and a half out of five stars.

This latest book in the series was really good. I loved how everything played out with Jason. Although, spoiler alert here, I figured that he was actually related to the Summerlands. The whole thing with Marmee Noir was scary too, and with Richard. Anita taking here anger back was nice, but I still don't like him anymore. I think that the Harlequin was better, due to Edward, but it was really good

To me Laurell can do no wrong. It reads like a side story, more like Micah then a book of the main series but I was really excited when they said it was about Jason!
Apparently I have a tendency to finish all Anita Blake novels in under a 24 hour time span (minus work and driving, etc) This was no exception. Though it did turn out to be more like Micah then an addition to the actual series I still enjoyed it. Jason has been one of my favorite characters and to find out a little more about him was fine by me. To me, it is hard for Ms. Hamilton to do wrong by Anita Blake.

The AB books will always hold a special place on my shelf, but I can admit I was disappointed with this installment. // After reading The Harlequin, I had such high hopes for this book. I thought the series might go back to its roots---mystery/danger, then romance. // I did enjoy the glimpses into Jason's life. He's such an interesting character, kind of surprises me sometimes, and I always wanted to know what LKH saw as his backstory. // Still, it felt like there should have been another book between BN and TH. Characters I knew weren't acting the way they acted in the last few books. (Growth is one thing, but c'mon... can we all agree Nathaniel was a little weird in this one?) // There were a lot of strings left dangling after TH and BN brought in more men and more complications. // I enjoy LKH's stories overall. I hope this book was just something that had to be written to set up for future events.

As good as The Harlequin was... well... this wasn’t. The first half of the book was completely boring, and by the time some interesting stuff started happening, it was over. The sex actually was toned down a bit, but this time the plot disappeared, too, replaced by endless heart-to-hearts and silly pre-wedding activities. Anita and Jason are out of town in Asheville, NC for this book, so there are very limited appearances of the usual suspects. I thought I was going to have to complain about Richard's assholishness yet again, but it looks like there may be a bit of redemption in his future. And most of all, I'm extremely disappointed that a book set in Asheville, NC didn't have anything in it about the Biltmore. Maybe it's because I was just recently there, but it seems like it would have made a really interesting location for *something* were- or vampire- related. Really, this book could have taken place anywhere.I mourn for the early days of this series.

I LOVED IT...........I just can't get enough!I Loved Blood Noir by Laurell K. Hamilton!I was so excited when this book was Released! It seemed like it took forever. Blood Noir did NOT Disappoint! I LOVED IT! I tries to savor it but I just could not put it down! I read it in less than 2 Days! It had lots of Twist and Turns. It kept me wondering what was going to happen next. I was never really sure what to Expect Next!I do recommend this book to anyone who reads the Anita Blake Vampire Hunter Series. Jason has been in most of the books so I was glad to get know him better and of course Richard is here too! I still Love all these books! If you are going to read them I suggest you read them in order since most characters are in all the books along some new characters too. This is a Wonderful Sexy Paranormal Series! Now I can't wait for the next book in the Series!

I was really impressed with this book. Not quite as good as The Harlequin, but definitely getting there, overall. I'm glad that Hamilton is getting away from all the sex and more into character and plot, not that the sex was bad anyway. There is some sex in this book, but it's needed to propel the plot along, and it's very sexy and well written. I was also glad to see the focus on Jason. I liked him as a character from the very beginning. She should do that more often...focus on more of the men in Anita's life and tell more about their various backgrounds. Nice twist at the end, but I saw it coming. Fantastic, I really enjoyed this book! Can't wait to read the next in about a year.

This book was more erotica than story - more so than usual. Unfortunately the story could have been good, ancient vampire-ess seeks control of Anita ... but it was stunted due to the focus on soo many erotica scenes. Even the author seemed tired of Anita Blake's multiple lovers ... it left the overly ridiculous scenes lacking. Perhaps Laurell Hamilton will get back to the good underlying story in the next book... or maybe she'll draw it out and make it crap again.

As with most of the recent Anita Blake novels, this was a bit of a disappointment, with far too much erotica and very little interesting storyline. This book is based around Jason and Anita's relationship. For fans of Jason this is probably a good basis for a novel, but for all the Jean-Claude and Richard fans out there it is not! Basically the story follows Anita as she and Jason go to his home town to visit his estranged dying father. In the process of doing this, there is a case of mistaken identity with Jason which causes some havock. In the concluding chapters of the novel you see a glimmer of the rough and tumble, shoot 'em up Anita which is great, but fleeting. Mostly the story revolves around sex, were animals and more sex.
If you like the newer erotic Anita Blake novels, you'll like this, but if you're a fan of her more chaste earlier novels its yet another diappointment to add to the list.

I love this series but I HATED this book. I did not enjoy her whole 'adventure' with Jason. His father pissed me off.

I loved learning more about Jason, and I always love his interactions with Anita, but I have to agree with others when I say I missed Jean Claude, Asher, and Micah. And I was kindof hoping to find out what happens with Samuel and Haven. But other than missing some old characters (who she did have some conversations with), i thought it was a good read.

Enough with the the explicit sex scenes that have nothing to do with the plot! This was a great series in the beginning but now it's just borderline porn. I only keep reading because I hope it'll revert to the series when it first came out. And it was good back then. Anita actually raised zombies and killed vampires. Now she just sleeps with anything that has male anatomy.

Does Hamilton feel she has to have a sex scene in each book? I was very very pleased to see one that was not pages in detail, despite the opening threesome. There was a lot of story and not an over powering sex scenes. One of the reasons I feel in love with this series was that Hamilton wrote a lot of romantic and sexual tension into the first several books, then when she released it, well it started to feel like the sex was a crutch. Anita in a bad situation? Have sex. Someone picking on one of her Harem? Have sex and the picked upon party gets incredibly powerful.I like these stories, just not sure about sex as a plot device.Still, another guilty pleasure.

Blood Noir was well written and interesting, however, it was very different from all the novels previous. A reviewer said the book was "boring, plotless and gross" and this statement is a simplified falsehood. Many devote readers may find Blood Noir to be boring in that it lacked the usual kick-arse action (up until the very end), but Hamilton's point was to dive into Jason's past and provide a little more insight and exploration within his life; Blood Noir accomplishes this successfully and is, therefore, interesting to anyone who finds Jason interesting. The plot was not as developed as some of the other books, but it was still there and consisted of mostly drama instead of action. As far as the gross comment, there is nothing in the story that is "gross" unless you thought the past few books have been gross as well, in which case you should have stopped reading these. All things considered, it was not my favorite book, but it was an easy, short (340pg HUGE text),and enjoyable read.
