I must say that this book is a page turner, a great start to the seventh tower series. it is not as fast as the keys to the kingdom series and doesnt strech your imagination but altogether a wonderful read. I am left eager to read the rest of the series, but I wont do it one anfter the other as i did with the abhorsen triolgy as I found too much in one go. Well Done Nix another winner.

This series is such a hidden gem. More geared towards a teenage audience than anything else, this series of 7 books is fantasic. Very inventive storytelling in a fully developed living, breathing world. For all it's simplicity, even still maintains a certain level of being very well thought out with the entire storyline coming together very seamlessly towards the end. Interesting characters, marvelous setting, and probably one of the most creative reincarnations of magic I've read in quite awhile.

Interesting and touching.A young boy risking his life and plunging into a wolrd full of magic and " live" shadows, carnivorous animals and action-packed.

This is a fast, subtle beginning to a series that has epic written all over. The Seventh Tower is a story well worth climbing.

Do not read this book or any of the others in the series. There is a comment from George Lucas on the back "I hope this book takes readers on a new journey of the mind" Well he was right, this book took my mind on a journey into just how bad a book can be. Garth Nix is not a bad writer, on the contrary he is one of the best of our times, however this book is just not him. It is essentially a graphic novel without graphics! the prose is boiled down to the essentials and it leaves off in a strange place. There is almost no character development and the plot is cliched. sorry Garth but Graphic novels have graphics for a reason namely because they'd be boring without them. Not recommended to those who don't like to waste time. DO NOT READ THIS BOOK. Don't get me wrong it's a decent book but Garth Nix can do so much better. The problem is that there just isn't enough space for Nix to perfect his characters and landscapes. The story is not nearly as original as Sabriel and the plot is dissapointingly thin. Tal literally and figuratvely falls flat. He seems two dimensional and far too serious. Milla too seems not quite human. For another author this would be a great book but I know that Garth Nix can deliver better formed characters, deliciously thick plots and far better jokes. George Lucas put's this comment on the back cover, "I hope this book takes readers on a new journey of the mind." Well sir it did but not the kind of jouney that I'm sure you had in mind. It was a journey into failure and back. DO NOT READ THIS BOOK

Although an ardent fan of Nix's , I did find this one too basic, and I realise I wasn't then intended audience.

The first book in one of my favorite childhood serises, the fall is about the boy, Tal, and his search for a sunstone to help his family.

hmm...not as good as some of garth nix's other novels but still quite good, i'm definately wanting to read the next in this series
