I really enjoyed this book until the last chapter. The story was too exciting to end it in such a boring way.

Though doesn't feel as adventurous as TI, the boy of the story is much more rational than Jim Hawkins in TI.

Its no Treasure Island, but it was still a fun read. I found the main character to be somewhat of a snot nose kid. It would have been a better story if Allan Breck was the protagonist.

Brilliant. A fascinating tale of the adventures of a boy aged 18 and his travels around the coutry, facing unexpected dangers such as family hatred, clan disputes, murder, trickery and always attempting to survive from the each perdiciment he faces throughout this journey he undertakes, never expecting anything of this sort to happen to him. This book has it all to be expected of any great adventure tale.

I was told to expect this to be a boring book, but I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't, and the writing is punctuated with humor which keeps the storyline flowing. The two main characters are believeable and likeable, their relationship ties the whole thing together. I have decided to read other Stevenson works on account of this book.

I came back and re-read this classic as it sort of brought brought me be back to my Scottish roots and the unwritten rules of codes of honour and bonds of friendship. "Well, goodbye," said Alan, and held out his left hand. "Good-bye" said I; and gave the hand a little grasp, and went off down the hill. Neither one of us looked the other in the face, nor so long as he was in my view did I take one back glance at the friend I was leaving. But as I went on my way tot he city, I felt so lost and lonesome, that I could ahve found it in my heart to sit down by the dyke, and cry and weep like any baby. Though nothing much happens in the whole book, a very good read for adventure story lovers for all that wonderful description woven in the authentic Robert Louis Stevenson's style.Beginning and Ending make the apex of the novel.

Downloaded this as my first free e-book to my kindle. Don't really know why I picked this one, but I am glad I did. It was good, although written in the 1800 so there was some language that I had to look up or infer the meaning by it's use. It's been made into several movies including one by Disney in 2003.

I love Robert Louis Stevenson!! Old fashioned writing, but wonderful. His poetry is awesome, too.

Exciting, but did not really like the ending. David and Alan parting ways in such an emotionless way was kind of depressing. Reminds me of Rob Roy, except this story has a much faster pace and is easier to stick with.

Hadn't read this since my early teen years but understood it better. The book is somewhat slow to start but picks up as one reads it. The ending is abrupt and I wanted to know more about the later lives of the characters. This was the beginning of my fascination with British/Scotish history of that era, which has grown steadily throughout my life. Certainly a classic of young and older.
