This series just gets better as the main character is transported to an alternate dimension... our own. This books delves deeper into the universe of His Dark Materials; it pulls you in and doesn't let go. This book is a must if you have read the first.

Book Two in His Dark Materials trilogy. Lyra is joined in her quest by Will, a boy from our world. Will’s father, an Arctic explorer, disappeared years ago and no one knows what happened to him. Will commits a crime while trying to keep his mother safe and is forced to flee into the mysteriously deserted world of Cittagazze, where he meets Lyra. When Lyra’s alethiometer is stolen by an unscrupulous collector, she and Will go on a quest for the Subtle Knife, a weapon that can open pathways between the worlds. Once they’ve got it, the quest to find Will’s father takes on more urgency. Meanwhile, the rest of the worlds are preparing for war and everyone is choosing sides. Lord Asriel is leading the rebellion against The Authority and more and more followers prepare to join him. Will and Lyra have not yet chosen sides and the right choice is, as yet, unclear. The end of this second book in the trilogy is a heartbreaking cliffhanger that leaves Will and Lyra separated and uncertain of what to do next. Highly recommended.

I'm seeing how this series could be anti-Christ, but don't feel I can make a conclusion until the last book is read and the battle waged.

досить незвичайна книга. у тому плані, що небуденна, що захоплює сюжет і що надзвичайно чітко й виважено використані фольклорні елементи. чудова ідея.

Pretty good book. As with the first, I was expecting a bit more, and in this book, you get to see a bit more of the depth to the story. This one centers around a male protagonist from our world, and compares ours with the world from the first book. Interesting stuff and in my opinion the best of the three.
