I came across an extract from this book in the back of another book I owned, and it was so funny I went out and searched ebay for books by the author, and bought three from this series. I'm about halfway through and so far it's made me laugh a whole lot, sniffle a bit at times, raise my eyebrows and remove my sweater two or three times when things started heating up, and generally go "ahhh...that's so nice". It's quite rare to find a book that manages to pull off that wry, cynical type of humour but still leave the reader with a sense of happiness and joie de vivre, but Charlaine Harris does it magnificently. I'll definitely be looking out for other books of hers once I've finished the ones I bought.

I have never read a book on vampires. I didn't care for TruBlood on HBO (a bit too graphic and violent for my taste). But I have read all the books in Charlaine Harris's Sookie Stackhouse series and loved each one. The character of Sookie is endearing and Harris can really weave a captivating story with believable scenarios about vampires and supernatural beings.

I'm going to read other books by this author, and look forward to the next Sookie book in 2010.

I really enjoyed this whole series. I blew through all the books over the holidays. In each book, Harris would sometimes veer off with her characters but in a future book they would tie back in. I wish that she would have kept some of the story lines to a minimum and focused more on the main characters but at the same time, I rushed to read the next book to see how they all tied in. Now I have to wait for her to write the next one!

I rather enjoy the ones with little to no Bill. Their arguments are extremely annoying & almost too Edward/Bella for me. I love the idea of Sookie with Eric. So of course I loved this book. I could do without the details, but I have learned to skim over them. At the beginning of the book Harris dedicated it to other moms in the stands of night time football games & I wonder how embarrassing it is for her kids that she writes semi erotic vampire books. Ew.

Even though I knew it was coming, I was crushed when he woke up & couldn't remember anything. Of course, it had to be that way.

I think this is my favourite of the series. I was hoping that Sookie would hook up with Eric and I loved seeing the gentler side of him. I also loved seeing Alcide again and how the Supe world keep expanding. This is a series that I can not put down and I really hope that the HBO series True Blood does well enough that they can get through all the books because I'm excited to see what they will do with them.I think this is my favourite of the series.  These books are such easy reads. Fun, light and always entertaining. Never a dull moment...no boring filler, just quick action.

One thing about this one, though, is a character that seems completely outta place and doesn't belong. The major scene involving the character seems out of place to me as well. However, now that I'm on book 4 I know that Ms. Harris doesn't just plunk characters in for no reason and I assume it was setting up a future book.

On to book 5!

 Well!!
This was a VERY interesting read and a VERYquirky twist of things/plans as well.

Sookie makes a New Year's resolution to NOT get in a fight where shegets hit. Or punched. Or beat-up. Or staked. Can she succeed?

This series just gets better and better with each book. You really feel what Sookie is feeling and she (the author) keeps getting better at keeping you hanging by the seat of your pants. And if you thought Sookie's relationship with Bill was interesting, then WATCH out for this one!!!

Sookie and Bill are taking some time apart. Far apart. To Peru, apart. Its looking as though this separation may be permanent.

It's New Years Eve and Sookie has just finished work. She was expecting to arrive home to an empty house, expecting to spend the next few hours sleeping in her safe warm bed. What she wasn't expecting was to see a naked man running down the road as she dove home. A naked dead man. It was the vampire, Eric.

Eric has lost his memory. He is as helpless as a puppy, a puppy with very sharp fangs, and will trust no one but Sookie. Sookie now finds herself the babysitter to a very dangerous vampire who can't remember a thing, and not to mention has a number of very dangerous people out looking for her 'baby'.

And this is just the beginning of Sookie's problems. Her brother has disappeared, a new threat has moved into neighbourhood, and there is the law to deal with. Sookie is left to deal with this all on her own as all the men in her life seem to have left her in some way or other.

But Sookie isn't the only one with problems, the vampires and the Weres are dealing with a new enemy that will see them go to war, unfortunately for Sookie she seems to be right in the middle of it. Will Sookie be able to avoid becoming involved in the bloodshed, not to mention the attempts on her life? And will her brother be found, alive?

But it's not all bad for Sookie though, there is a marriage proposal of sorts, two in fact, not to mention a large sum of cash for her trouble.

Another well written, actioned packed mystery full of twists, dangers and new supernatural beings. Best of the series so far.

All of the Southern Vampire Mysteries/Sookie Stackhouse novels are thoroughly addicting but thus far Dead to the World has risen to the stop of the stack in my estimates. Though I have yet to complete the series, I appreciate this novel best as it expands on the relationship of Sookie and Eric rather than Sookie and Bill. As Bill has progressed in the novels, I find him more and more of a bore and was thrilled with the intimacy created between Eric and Sookie. I loved the duality in Eric's personalities presented in this chapter of Sookie's life. Hard to believe Sookie goes through these experiences in a matter of months. All in all, it's hard not to love any of the novels and I can't wait to finish the last couple!!

Another good book in the series. I always liked Eric better, so I must admit the change of Bill for him was a welcome one. I like how Harris has expanded her universe to witches and werewolves; sticking to a lot of stereotypical descriptions and beliefs, b...ut adding enough unique concepts to make them her own. I wasn't entirely on board with the amnesia plot, and Eric's drastic change in character (because, let's face it, we only like Eric because he is a rude bad boy), but I thought the development of their relationship under the circumstances was interesting. Another solid read.

Sookie rocks it again! This is the book that the current season is based on. I love that they don't take the storyline exactly. There is a lot of variation with character story lines. Looking forward to the next in the series. Bottom line....a great read!

This is my favorite in the Sookie series right now. Sookie and Eric's relationship gets so interesting I almost want the other plot lines to go away. But all of that gets so much deeper and pleasantly complex as well. Also I must note (possible spoiler), on page 123 Harris has definitely written the best post-coital line ever.

Boo I hated this one. I was so bored, especially towards the end. Eric/Sookie was dissapointing. And why isn't Jason more likable and interesting?
I was excited to get up to book 4 because everyone keeps raving about this 1. But I did not like it as much as the ohers! I was bored towards the end and skimmed through the last 20 pages.

I just didn't like this whole "war" concept, it felt very much like a season finale of Buffy, only less genius and climatic.

Sookie constantly looking for someone important who may or may not be dead is getting old.

And why does everyone wear so much orange? lol. I wonder if anyone else thought its weird that many characters wear orange.

In this book the reader really begins to like Eric. I thought when I heard that Bill was not always going to be Sookie's love interest that I would be disapointed. After what he did to her in "Culb Dead" though I am glad that he is gone. Unfortunately for the reader Eric gets his memory back, but loses all the time that he had at Sookie's house. I guess I will have to continue reading to see where this relationship will go next.

I loved this book. I must say that I did like the memory impared Eric. He still has his sense of humor. I did however miss the old Eric. I thought the story was told well. I felt sorry for Sookie when the story was over. It seems Sookie is never going to find that one true love. I can't waint to read the next one.

This is my favorite book in the series! I love Eric's character and when I read the back to find out the whole book had to with Eric I did a little dance! The only downside to the book is the end was completely predictable once you got into the first 20 pages. But everything between page 20 to the end was on the edge of your seat page turning. This book really is the turning point in the Sookie and Eric relationship/friendship. It was good to see Alcide back and I like Harris' continued effort to pull in more of the secondary characters into stronger roles.

I have to say I was completely disappointed by this book. I cannot pull from memory anything I enjoyed except the witch war and, mercifully, the ending.

I believe it is entirely possible to make a big bad vampire like Eric "more vulnerable and human" without turning him into Edward Cullen prototype. I left Dead To The World wondering if this was SMeyer's inspiration for her series. Yes, that is how much I did not like it.

As much as I have come to dislike Bill after that infamous trunk scene in the last book, I found myself begging for him to come back and take attention away from Eric. I like my vampires acting like vampires not sappy puppy dogs uttering the phrase "lover" every other second.

This book read like a Harlequin novel and did not feel like it was even the same series. The characters all seemed like shells of their form selves, except Pam who did the smart thing by tossing Eric onto Sookie since she didn't want to deal with his crappy behavior. Well played, Pam.

How can people want Sookie with Eric when she point-blank-period said that she did not like the real him and preferred that watered down version much more? She even mentally slapped herself for feeling that way, but then shrugged it off with an "oh well". I really liked the coupling until this book. I was very disappointed.

Aside from the badly written romance was the Debbie Downer. Debbie Downers are all the female characters who pose a romantic threat to Sookie. This book is when I started to notice that all the female characters who dare like the male characters Sookie likes are evil bitches. Often literally! Maryann in book 2 was a maenad who screwed Sam and had some weird thing with Eric. Portia wasn't evil in book 2, but she was cruelly using Bill. Lorena was Bill's maker and she betrayed Bill in book 3 for no well explained reason. Debbie was a bitch in book 3 and 4 all for the love of Alcide but for no real reason other than "she was just that way". Why is Sookie's competition the lowest of the low? Why not have a sweeter, prettier girl who is nice and well-put together? When it's once or twice, it's realistic; when it's all the time, it's bad writing!

Another thing that the above made me realize is that almost every male is interested in Sookie. If they are not, then they are gay or evil. Reread and you'll see what I mean! Your character can be attractive so that a lot of men look at her, but after awhile she's becoming a Sue.

The good parts in this book, however, were phenomenal. The witch war, although lacking the strength of some of the previous action scenes, had me begging for more. Had the book been devoid of the Eric plot and certain character derailment, it would have tied with Club Dead as my second favorite.

The Jason plot was also fairly interesting. I was excited by his unfortunate incident simply because I thought Jason needed to do more in the series than sleep around and looks stupid. He seems like an awesome character in the making, after all.

I'm really disappointed by the amount of people who cite this as their favorite book since it was Harris's worst. It took me nearly two weeks to read it. I had to literally force myself to finish and I could barely read a full chapter in one sitting because I was so annoyed and disappointed. This book almost made me quit the series, because I fear their will be another just like it.

When True Blood gets to Season 4 (or whenever they take on this book), I really hope they clean up the character derailment and bad mini plots. And please, no more Eric saying "lover". It's not sexy or cute.

I know I wrote a longer review for this than my favorites, but I'm much more passionate since I was so so disappointed. I'm really expecting books 5-9 to blow me away the way 1-3 did!
