Having just finished the Revelation Space trilogy, I'm happy that I found it. The characters are fully realized to the point that they have a distinct voice in my mind. Reynolds does a good job writing action and he's developed a very cool universe. I'm not sure that I understand all of the themes of the universe, but maybe that wasn't the point. Most often I'm disappointed with an ending to a novel (or series) that feels thrown together and rushed, and this (unfortunately) was the case with the RS trilogy. As much as I enjoyed it, the ending left me wanting.

A disappointing end to the Revelation Space trilogy. Only the last 200 pages or so of this novel are truly engaging, with much of what came before it slow and uninteresting. This is especially true of the Rashmika Els story line, which felt like a punishment each time it came around in the first two thirds of the book. I can only recommend this book to those who feel strongly about finishing what they start.

With Revelation Space and Redemption Ark, Alastair Reynolds redefined the hard sci-fi space opera. Adopting a scale of truly mind-boggling proportions, this tale of humanity's desperate fight for survival against the Inhibitors, a foe of such power and potence as to be almost beyond comprehension, these two novels set the stage for the mother of all plot resolutions. Can the final volume in the series, Absolution Gap, live up to the expectations raised by its predecessors? http://www.theyowie.com.au/2008/09/01/absolution-gap-by-alastair-reynolds-book-review/

I am forever having visions of great cathedrals trundling across and desolate landscape on a godforesaken lost world. Just fantastic.
