This is what Science Fiction writing should be. World-building mind blowing story writing. Wheels w/in wheels political intrique, philosophy, and a great space opera.

Certainly deserving of all the hype its received over the past 40-some years. Only downside is that, as with any work so embedded in the popular psyche, I knew so much about the story going in that it lost some of the excitement of discovery. All things considered, though, if that's the worst I can say about a book, well....I'm looking forward to seeing the Paramount remake of the film--assuming it comes together in the next decade. I'd love to get my hands on the 200+ page Joshua Zetumer script floating around the studio.

This if one of my all time favorites. There is something magical about the way Herbert describes a planet with almost no water. A master piece of modern fiction worthy of its Hugo and Nebula Awards ten times over. Don't be fooled by the 1984 film, the film is okay the book is awesome.

I think I was a high school senior when I read this! :) Do the math. Check out some of Frank Herbert's other books. Very good and very, very interesting! I still remember the plots all these years later.... Renee
