Very difficult to get into. I think this is the basis for the Matrix films, but it makes the films seem like kids' books. Everyone I know who's read it says they couldn't understand until after multiple readings. I couldn't face reading it twice!

William Gibson's 'Neuromancer' is an impeccable narrative set in a familiar feeling dystopia that pulses with cruelty, passion, and visceral characters. This competes with Herbert's 'Dune' as my favorite Science Fiction novel of all time.

This is a classic book. The characters are well formed and complete. there is no clear cut good or evil, every body is on the take in some way. Bear in mind that this was written before the advent of the internet and it just blows you away.This book gave birth to cyber punk, conceptulised the internet, sowed the seeds of Second Life and fuelled numerous hackers with ideas.Having re-read it recently, the only thing that dates it is the absence of mobile phones.

Complex and intriguing. It made me truly let my imagination loose throughout the whole story. Very detailed all the way to the end. This has been one of my longest reads.

Un grand classique de la SF, dont se sont inspirés nombre d'auteurs (l'excellent Stéphane Beauverger, par exemple) et de réalisateurs, parmi lesquels ceux de Matrix... Autrement plus riche et nuancé, l'univers "cyberpunk" de Neuromancien se construit par l'entremise d'un récit percutant et imagé, qui met à profit toutes les ressources de l'écriture pour dérouler le flux de conscience d'un personnage innovant. L'ambiance créée paraît assez proche du film Renaissance - Paris 2054, par exemple. A lire, pour les amateurs de science-fiction.

The Matrix was invented in this book. Hard core sci-fi filled with ambiguity and confusion. Excellent literature filled with underground jive and hipness. A must read for anyone who is interested in high-tech dystopian vision of a future dominated by Artificial Intelligence.

This is the only book I have ever quit in the middle of the last chapter. I didn't even put it down in anger - I just got bored. Can't write a proper review because I remember almost nothing about it.

The benchmark in cyber-punk, and if you grew up in the generation of the Matrix, you can definitely see where the creators of that flick got some of there ideas from....

Interesting story, though it can be difficult to explain the plot to anyone who asks. It takes a good deal of attention to read and understand, but is worth the "work". I personally enjoyed the way Gibson plunges you into future a world without bothering to fully explain it all at once; he lets the story reveal and explain the world bit by bit as it progresses.
