The Matrix was invented in this book. Hard core sci-fi filled with ambiguity and confusion. Excellent literature filled with underground jive and hipness. A must read for anyone who is interested in high-tech dystopian vision of a future dominated by Artificial Intelligence.

(1.) Almost SEVEN MILLION copies sold + (2.) "Cyberspace: a consensual hallucination experienced daily by billions of legitimate users, in every nation" + (3.) computer geeks tend to read "Science Fiction," even way back in 1984, when this novel first came out... YOU do the math. How ya like your "information highway," bitches? (Yes, you're welcome -- it all started here -- don't thank the frickin' DEFENSE DEPARTMENT [as I read someone cavalierly posit recently ... THOSE guys tend not to SHARE!])

It was even better the second time, 22 years later! As I traversed Gibson's world and the propositions his work makes, it became more and more clear to me that "The Matrix" movie amounts to a shallow, high budget, Hollywood imitation. It simply apes the behaviour of a truly advanced and artfully crafted epic tale. But that is really the sad state of mass entertainment media. I've always wanted to see a film depiction of Neurmancer and the Foundation series but the process so frought with peril that I'm happy to wait years more if some true artist will due the work justice.

There is no question that William Gibson was a visionary and created a cultural phenomenon that we see moving forward still today. As a personal reading experience, I found it incredibly difficult to follow. There is so much original jargon and detail. The style and richness however, is undeniably impeccable.

Rastafarian's in space....man, this book was all over the place. No clear path as to what was going on. Not sure what all the fuss was about. At least now I can say I actually finished the book
