A follow up to Plum Island, I really like the wittiness of the main character, making a lot of the dialogue amusing. Overall, the book is entertaining. A bit morbid, considering that 9/11 followed within a couple of years after this. I’m looking forward to reading more John Corey books.

I just love the John Corey character, but this book is really way two long. Something like 23 hours of audio. The writing is great, but the story could have been done just as well with way less words!
Great story, but very long.

I read this one ages ago but never updated my bookshelf with a review. This is the first John Corey book about The Lion (a 'Radical' Muslim intent on exacting revenge on particular Americans). An excellent book - and one that sets the stage nicely for the latest DeMille thriller, The Lion.

Nelson Demille is what I like to call a shit writer. He fits right in with Dan Brown and David Hagberg. His characters are uninteresting, predictable, and almost as stupid as I imagine the author must be himself. His research base for this novel probably consisted of 5 or 6 hours of internet search engine queries transferred onto 3 or 4 pages of a regular lined paper. This is the first and last book I plan to read by this pathetic excuse for an author.

The subject matter was very topical. This was written before 2001 and some of the things DeMille writes about seem a lot less far fetched than they may have when the book came out. DeMille uses first person narrative with his main character, John Corey, and does a great job with it. There are parts of the book that are very, very amusing and other parts that are sad and bewildering (in a good sense). A very good read. I look forward to reading The Lion.

Aside from a few John Grisham novels I read in High School, I am not partial to the thriller novel. However, I am a huge Nelson Demille fan, but will admit that the sequel (The Lion) to this John Corey novel is mediocre at best. He chronicled a lot of unnecessary tricks and the book felt too similar to The Lions Game. The Lion's Game was the first John Corey novel featuring Libyan terrorist Asad Kahlil. Another great Nelson Demille nove is Wildfire- probably my second favorite.

After listening to The Lion, I decided to give this one a second listen. Scott Brick is John Corey, and I am having fun with every wise crack that is made. If you have never read a John Corey book this is a great one to try out.

If Demille could get in the head of a terrorist, why couldn't our government! This was one of the best books of my life. Loved it!

This book gave me new insight, despite its fictional outlook, on the cultural differences of our world. Americans are very different from people of cultures who have held on to the traditions and customs that have lasted thousands of years. We should never take that away from them, no matter the "better living conditions."

The second book of the series involving John Corey, is the Lion's Game. John Corey is now a member of the Anti Terrorism Task Force (ATTF) after leaving the NYPD and the 'Lion' is Asad Khalil a Libyan terrorist who is supposedly defecting.

Asad however, is keen on revenge for the loss of his family as a result of the air strike on Libya in 1986. What ensues is a chase across America for a Terrorist intent on bloody destruction. John Corey and his new partner Kate however are not sure who is actually chasing who. Throw into the mix the FBI and CIA and John isn't sure who he can trust. In true DeMille style this book is full of action, suspense and humour. A page turner that felt a lot shorter than it's 850 page length.

What an amazingly good book!!! Written before 9/11 happened, yet absolutely about terrorism at it's worst... we thought. The main character John Corey is such a smart and witty guy, and the terrorist Asad Khalil an extremely scary guy... and no doubt thinks the way terrorists seem to think. I'm anxious to read the sequel "The Lion." John Corey's sense of humor made the scary terrorism parts easier to take.

Nelson DeMille's books are good to the very last page. The character John Corey is in 5 of his books, starting with Plum Island. I highly recommend his books to everyone who enjoys reading.
