Ken Follett can make any story easy to understand despite the complicated circumstances. His characters are elaborately revealed so one can fully absorb all of the factors at hand.

Actually I listened to it. Unfortunately the female voice was an awful actress. The best thing about it was the sex scene!

although it's not as mind-gripping as pillars of the earth and world without ends, the story is nicely written and overall the book is worth reading.

“I was a huge Ken Follet fan maybe 5-10 years ago, when I read "The Man from St.Petersburg", "A Dangerous Fortune", and "The Third Twin". I think I stopped reading his novels, only to try ones by other authors, and then never made my way back to him until now. And I am glad that I did. This book was awesome! It is set in Afghanistan, during it's CIA financed war against the Soviets in the mid-1980's. It is a love story and a great chase, loaded with espionage, betrayal, sacrifice, cruelty, military gamesmanship, passion and triumph. It is fascinating to be brought into Afghanistan, and experience the very difficult lives of the nomadic tribes, villagers and fighters, as well as the spies and their networks from both sides of the Cold War as they work to manipulate themselves into position to win the war. This thriller is one that I would highly recommend.”
