A collection of short stories is always a good thing to come across. It can remind you of the true breadth of a writer, and not just what they are promoted as. King is a prime example. The stories range for the horror (which he is known for), to more literary. Each story stands on its own merit, but each is written is that very Stephen King voice that I have come to enjoy. There is no intent to make up a metaphor or symbolism. These are stories, meant to be enjoied however you enjoy them.And you shall. From the whimscially darkly wierd "The ballad of the Flexible Bullet", to the Golden Age of Sci Fi "Beach world", or the mounting terror of "Gramma". The last of these is the perfect illustration of what makes Mr King such an enjoyable read. The Mundane and the horror both Coexist in the same world, seamlessly, and are fill with believable characters. For King fans, and those looking for an introduction to man.

Some of the stories were great (The Mist, Mrs. Todd's Shortcut, The Jaunt) others were kind of blah (The Wedding Gig, Uncle Otto's Truck). Overall a good variety of stories definitely worth a few nights of your time.

Definitely some memorable stories in here as well as a few that seem to be filler. Overall pretty good though.
