Great short spooky stuff. My favorite is Mrs. Todd's Shortcut, but most of them are good stories you can read just before bed...or at lunch if that gives you the willies.

Many creepy short stories for your enjoyment. It was wonderful to read the Mist without the ending that you saw in theaters. The story about Ms. Todd was rich in detail, and a wonderful quick read.

Quite like any other anthology by Stephen King, 'Skeleton Crew' takes you through spellbinding series of horror, thriller and psychological drama.

A great collection of short stories from S.K. Not quite as good as Nightmares and Dreamscapes in my opinion.

The Skeleton Key is defintely one of the best collections of Stephen King short stories as the almost every single one is excellently written and full of imagination. Perhaps what sets this collection apart from the others is that the stories and slightly loner and thus a little more fleshed allowing for depth and imagination. The main stoyr is without doubt The Mist which was only recently made into a film but each one has plenty to recommend. This collection is well worth your time.

Great collection! Favorites include: The Mist, Mrs. Todd's Shortcut, The Jaunt (what a horribly creepy ending!), The Raft, Word Processor of the Gods, Nona (Do you love?), Gramma, & The Ballad of the Flexible Bullet.

It was a highly enjoyable read. The only reason it took me awhile to finish was that after I finished a story, I had to put the book down.

I somehow overlooked this book during my read-everything-by-Stephen King-frenzy that happened about 12 years ago (I guess it happens to most people), and I'm glad I went back to it. One story gave me a nightmare, another one had a line in it that frightened me pretty badly, and with stories like Survivor Type and The Reach I don't understand how so many people dismiss Stephen King as a writer. In any case, these stories are fun and often smart -- one of them takes cannibalism in a step so perfectly horrific I can't believe I've never read it before. Okay, that's all.

This is the first Stephen King’s book I’ve read, back in 1989. Once I’ve found myself into “The Mist” I just wanted to keep reading until it was over. It’s been instant love, and has never changed since then. Reading al these novels after 20 years, and still being totally captured by Uncle Stevie’s ability to let you gently get into a story until it becomes a part of you, well, it only confirms that true love is forever.

While there are other stories that give me the willies, I am always drawn to "Word Processor of the Gods" in Stephen King's Skeleton Crew. I read it before I ever owned it and its premise involving a word processor with supernatural powers, while silly on the surface, was very compelling to me. King asks: What if you simply typed a sentence like "I wish I were married to the loveliest, kindest person on earth," and by pressing ENTER, it came true? Maybe in the hands of a lesser writer the premise is silly, but King tells his story with a fine balance of spookiness and wit. The closing paragraph is a gem.

An older version of King's now famous "The Mist" can be found here. It is the shining jewel of this collection. There are 21 other Shorts by King in this collection. Another story here that really stood-out in my mind, and that is King's little Sci Fi short, "The Jaunt". I laughed out loud hard and long at Carune's bag. It's a really great little story. Longer than you think.... heh heh. Now, the real "getter" here, the one that sticks with you, coils itself into your mind, is "The Ballad of the Flexible Bullet". Insanity and Alcohol go hand in hand. Who knows? Together they may bear a Fornit. ^_^ Writers will fall in love with this story.

A collection of short stories is always a good thing to come across. It can remind you of the true breadth of a writer, and not just what they are promoted as. King is a prime example. The stories range for the horror (which he is known for), to more literary. Each story stands on its own merit, but each is written is that very Stephen King voice that I have come to enjoy. There is no intent to make up a metaphor or symbolism. These are stories, meant to be enjoied however you enjoy them.

And you shall. From the whimscially darkly wierd "The ballad of the Flexible Bullet", to the Golden Age of Sci Fi "Beach world", or the mounting terror of "Gramma". The last of these is the perfect illustration of what makes Mr King such an enjoyable read. The Mundane and the horror both Coexist in the same world, seamlessly, and are fill with believable characters.

For King fans, and those looking for an introduction to man.

Only gave it 3 and a half stars so far because i'm not done reading it. Though from what i've read so far...VERY GOOD! "the monkey" was sorta disappointing I think. There's much better reads in this book so far

Probably King's best collection of short stories. "The Mist" is an awesome short novel in the greatest spirit of the Romero Zombie films about a group of people trapped in a store by an unknown menace. "The Raft" is wonderfully depressing, and "The Jaunt" is a chilling look at the imperfect science of teleportation. All stories are very thought-provoking, sometimes in a good way, sometimes not....

If you're a King fan, you've already read this. If not, and are looking for a good scare, check it out. You will not be disappointed....

A good collection from Stephen King, Skeleton Crew is a mixed bag of horror. While not everything was to my liking, several gave me chills. The novella "The Mist" is not normally my type of horror, but I enjoyed it for how it was told. I found "The Monkey," "The Reaper's Image," "Uncle Otto's Truck" and "Gramma" pretty creepy, while "Survivor Type" was totally gruesome. "Word Processor of the Gods" was one of my favorites, loved the idea of a word processor that can change things in the real world. "The Ballad of the Flexible Bullet" was another standout for me (another story involving a writer), and "The Reach" was a lovely and poignant finish to the collection.

Picked this up for "The Mist" after thoroughly enjoying the movie. Like Darabont's adaptation of The Shawshank Redemption, the movie mostly follows the book quite closely. This novella was thoroughly enjoyable. The rest of the stories were hit or miss... My favorites, besides The Mist:-"The Jaunt" - a rare sci-fi turn for the author... In spite what King admits is some wonky science, this story's ending is downright terrifying.-"The Monkey" - The classic tale of the creepy toy monkey with the clapping cymbals. Oh, and it's cursed. -"Word Processor of the Gods" - Intriguing and goofy existential premise.-"Uncle Otto's Truck" - Nice to see King's muse in action... This was a fairly clear-cut situation where he drove along, saw an abandoned 1930s truck on blocks across from a farmhouse, and made up a sordid history for it. Quite enjoyable.-"Survivor Type" - Diary of a shipwreck survivor who resorts to self-cannibalism. Awesome.

I felt death lurking around me. I felt the breath of my favourite author on my face, whispering stories of this endless destruction that we go through every day. The strong passion for the unknown, the decision to kill yourself slowly in order to live more, a challenge towards the god that we have always trusted in and many more I have found in this brilliant book. However, this brilliance shows itself with the mask of grotesque reality just like the other masterpieces of our King.

Lots of great tales here but quite a few clunkers that I wasted my time on. Still worth reading, but ask me which ones to skip! Favorites are The Mist, Word Processor of the Gods, Beachworld, The Jaunt.
