this is one of my favorite Ken Follett's books, primarily because it is so believably written. Got me hooked from the start!

This was a fun airline passtime. Not Follett's best, but not bad.

A senior agent in the ranks of the Special Operations Executive (SOE) responsible for sabotage, Flick has survived to become oe of Britain's most effective operatives in Northern France. She knows that the Germans' ability to thwart the Allied attack depends upon their lines of communications, and in the days before the invasion no target is of greater strategic importance than the largest telephone exchange in Europe.

But when Flick and her Resistance-leader husband try a direct, head-on assault that goes horribly wrong, her world turns upside down. Her group destroyed, her husband missing, her superiors unsure of her, her own confidence badly shaken, she has one last chance at the target, but the challenge, once daunting, is now near-impossible. The new plan requires an all-woman team, none of them professionals, to be assembled and trained within days. Code-named the Jackdaws, they will attempt to infiltrate the exchange under the noses of the Germans-but the Germans are waiting for them now and have plans of their own. There are secrets Flick does not know-secrets within the German ranks, secrets among her hastily recruited team, secrets among those she trusts the most. And as the hours tick down to the point of no return, most daunting of all, there are secrets within herself….

Set in world war 2, it tells of a desperate mission made up of women trying to blow up a telephone exchange before the invasion.

Think of it as dirty 1/2 dozen with girlies instead of men. Diverse characters, a plot that skips along, and action. Brilliant book, more than enough to make me buy more Ken Follett books.

 Code name : the Jackdaws
Members : 6 civil women trained for only 2 days
Leader : Beautiful and smart Flick Clairet
Target : Sabotage the main nazi telecommunication center just before D-Day
Ennemy : Brilliant, merciless Dieter Franck who is also an expert in torture

Inspired from a real fact, this novel is not only thrilling. Franck is so wickedly brilliant that you wish you'll never meet such person. As usual, although the heroe experiences a happy end, the novel is not full of joy. Torture scenes are so realistic that a chill runs through your spine.
You worry about Flick and her team, sometimes you surprise yourself crying "don't" out loud.

Definitely a very good read, you won't regret.

This was a decent read, but basically brain candy. It's basically about a group of women saboteurs fighting in the French Resistance against the Germans during World War II and the mission they must complete in order to ensure the success of the D-Day invasion. I found it hard to get past the first several chapters of the book, but the last half went by pretty fast. This is a fun read if you have some time to kill.
This was a good read, albeit brain candy. It was kind of hard to get into at first, but the pace picked up later in the book and the last half was pretty exciting. I found it hard to put down the book.
This was a good read, albeit brain candy. It was kind of slow at first for me, but picked up in the second half. I found it hard to put it down toward the end.

Picked this book up in Split Croatia at a Sobe (private house)I was staying at back in the Fall of '06. I ended up dragging this book through Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia, Hungary, back to Utah USA. I decided to finally read the book and bring it back to Europe and drop it off.
The book itself is entertaining and very easy to read. I was amazed how quickly I got through it! If you enjoy WWII stories you will find this worth reading.

I really enjoy books that take their premise from real life events and this book does that really well. Jackdaws gives the background and events surrounding a French Resistance movement during WW2, just before June 6. It kept me on my toes, and I couldn't put it down for 2 days!
