The series keeps getting better and better. Jim Butcher has a way of pulling you into the story where you don't want to stop reading. Can't wait to start the next one.

Very classic Jim Butcher. He continues to weave the past of Dresden into his series and this book gives us a huge chunk of his past as well as another great mystery. While not as good as book 3 this is definitely worth picking up.

It begins with a rain of frogs. A most promising way to start a novel! And moves on swiftly from there. This is another engaging tale about our favourite downbeat wizard PI. It does get bogged down a bit in faerie and wizard politics - I found some of the white council scenes a tad tedious. These moments, however, are more than made up for by the chlorofiend, pixies and other madcap inclusions! I just wish I had been able to get my paws on books 2 and 3 before reading this one, as I feel it would have made a little more sense. As it is, I have now ruined some of the plot from these titles.

Jim Butcher's the Dresden Files only continue to get better and better, continuing to make the case that this is the best fantasy series on the market today. (Yes, maybe even better than another series about a guy named Harry). In the fourth installment, Dresden is in a funk over the loss of his girlfriend in the last novel. He's also facing the consequences of starting a war between the White Council and the Red Court. The Red Court has a demand--they'll sue for peace if the Council turns Harry over to them. As if that weren't enough, the deal Harry made with his godmother has been sold to another in the faerie realm and she's calling in the first of her three favors. Oh and the first-love of Harry's life who he thought was dead and betrayed him is back. Not a good week for our hero. But still a compelling, page-turning, suspenseful and entertaining book that continues to up the ante for how good this series is.

Didn't really care for the whole faerie theme, it was very confusing and more complicated than needed. Many appearances of characters aren't prefaced and left me wondering had I missed something: Billy showing up at the dumpster and Toot Toot near the end.

Still like Fool Moon the most. Make me feel that the series peaked early and most fans are just so caught up that they are going along for the ride.

I think at this point, butcher was starting to realize that the Dresden franchise was going to take off, and began to prepare for its future success.

I really liked this book, the Involvement of Queen Mab makes things most interesting

The books in the series are pretty much all the same. I enjoy them for pure escapism, but there is nothing really new between 1, 2, 3, 4.

While I'd certainly enjoyed the first three Dresden Files novels, it was this volume that truly made me a fan. I couldn't put it down, and I fell in love with Harry's dry sense of humor. There were times his one-liners had me bursting out loud laughing. Great series as a whole (and still going!) but Summer Knight made me a believer.

How can you not like a book that mixes fantasy, horror, and mystery; that references everything from Tolkien to Looney Tunes; that has a skull named Bob? Butcher gets better with each book... and he was bloody good to begin with! Here, Harry, who hasn't been having a good few months since Susan left town with a newly acquired taste for blood, finds himself hired by the Winter Queen of Faerie, Mab, to discover the killer of the Summer Knight. But you can never make a deal with faeries...

Just OK for me, not as good as some others in the series.
Not the best in the series but it's a Dresden book so worth the read.

The back cover blurb of this book is what convinced me to start reading the Dresden Files; the plot sounded good overall, and I gave the series a chance. The mystery kept my attention, and I've been a fan of Jim Butcher ever since.

Harry Dresden is a wise-cracking detective for hire style wizard, who had a tendency to piss off a lot of people.

In book four, he's sort of started a war between the wizards and the vampires and the wizards are deciding whether they want to keep him or turn him into a sacrificial lamb.

One of his old flames from long ago shows up.

Mab, the Queen of the Faeries, manipulates him into investigating a murder that has bigger repercussions for Fae lands as well as the mortal world.

Other people are trying to kill him, too.

What's a wizard to do?

Well, Harry is pretty smart and capable, even if he hasn't bathed in several days and is close to being evicted. Oh, he's depressed so he's pushed away all his friends at this point. Heh.

The mystery for this one is particularly good, so, if like the red herring ploy, Butcher uses it quite well here.

Pretty good use of Fae legends and spells.

Enjoy.
