The eighth in the Dresden Files series finds Harry, now a Warden, set on the trail of black magic. Movie monsters are coming to life, and Harry has to find out how. Then a punked-out Molly Carpenter appears on his doorstep, needing help. What happens next? A daring raid on the stronghold of the Winter Queen of the Faeries is just one thing... I enjoy this series more and more with each book. I don't know how Butcher does it, but each book draws on the earlier ones in the series, until you've got a complex web of plots going on, but everything is very straightforward, never confusing. Added to that is the incredible wit and pop-culture references with which Harry's narration is endowed. It's irresistible.

I think this was my favorite of all the Harry Dresden books so far. The war between the vampire courts and the white court is still raging and the fae won't get involved. Harry, newly appointed Warden, receives a warning that there is black magic afoot in Chicago and it is up to him to root it out. I really loved the interaction between Harry and the whole Carpenter family.

I'm a big fan of the Dresden Files, so any book in there is going to get a pretty decent rating from me. This one started off very strong but trailed off a bit in the middle, and lost some of my interest. It picks up again at the end though so is well worth sticking with.

I have to say that all these books are great, but this one just pushed the series over the top for me. It culminates the entire series so nicely. There is involvement from all of the characters in the series and it makes you want to read more, and more. This book is slightly longer than the earlier books, but I found that it did not matter. There was enough meat in the story to more than justify the length. I am eagerly looking forward to the next book.

Butcher writes some incredibly complex plots. This book was no exception. This one is packed with terror and quick pacing. A page turner with plenty of juicy twists.
