Hated this book when I read for a class .... but look at where we are now and where our government is aiming for us to be. Really never thought they could get away with as much as they have so far

it was dark but orwell was supposed to be famous. anyway it was one of the books in the 'locker' that was part of recommended reading in secondary school. similar style to Brazil

I read this in middle school. I didn't really care for it, but I remember the boys in my class all seemed to love it. Very science-fictiony, in a Star Trek kind of way. You know, like something out of the 60's, with Orwell trying to imagine how weird and depraved our society would be in 1984. I read this around 1977 or so. I gave it an extra star for originality, but I wouldn't read it again.
