When i 1st read the book, i didn't understand it, then i had to read it again in high school. My perception was still unclear until it was explained to me from a political aspect. Now i would have to say, i kind of view the world through the eyes of possibly the author. Different times, different view points.

I love when a book is so real. You can see it in many cases of politics. It is a necessary read, in my opinion.

To my big surprise a lot of people don't understand what a fable is. Some people have been criticizing this book because "it's just a lot of animals acting as if they were people and that's totally unrealistic". I don't like the story in Animal Farm. The writing is great, the characters wonderful, it is obvious what Orwell is referring to...

Gosh this was good to study. Although the polical satricism was lost on my students last year. The came away from it with some sort of notion that it was about communism, which okay it was but not really. Another criticism on human nature, and what we allow our government to get away with if not paying attention. It was a story as much about the sheep blinding following the pigs, than the pigs leading them into the inferno.

When the animals of Manor Farm take over management of their farm, all are content. Everyone works hard and is happy to share with the other animals on the farm. However, the pigs start to take advantage of the system, leaving the other animals no better off than they were when the farmer was in charge. Orwell's allegory of Communism was written long before the collapse of the Soviet Union, but he got a lot of things right.

I don't know why I haven't read this book earlier, since I majored in English lit. I read 1984 twice, but never Animal Farm, until 2 days ago.I only give it 3 stars because I feel that the metaphore of the Russian Revolution is too obvious, too explicit. I prefer either a clear political manifesto, or, if an author recurrs to satire, more Jonathan Swift and less George Orwell. It is clear to me that Swift was one of Orwell's influences, but I find the two authors to be of very different levels.

I first read this book in grade four. I loved it, but didn't realize until I re-read it about six years later that it was 'about' Communism. Which shows its genius, I guess - the first time I read it I loved all of the characters (well, loved the horses and a few of the 'good guys' and appropriately grew to loathe the pigs and their compatriots) and was ridiculously traumatized when they sent Boxer off, and the second read brought a whole new layer of meaning to the tale. Both times it stuck with me and, as someone in another review down there said, the ending was undeniably haunting (even to ten-year-old me).

Only read Animal Farm so far. Quick but interesting and fun read. While the story is of the animals on a farm most literally, it is pretty deep and seems a good analogy for just about any conflict amongst beings.

Perfect for whiling away an afternoon or some light bedtime reading, I read Animal Farm shortly after reading Orwell's other novel 1984. It's much shorter than 1984 but a good read - drawing parallels between the Bolshevik Revolution and Stalinism. I'd recommend the both of them.

This is a short 55 page explaining a changing form of Government. While Russia went through Czarist to Proletarian to Communism/Socialism under Stalin, we experience similar transformations to many countries across the world.

The novel addresses not only the corruption of the revolution by its leaders but also how wickedness, indifference, ignorance, greed and myopia destroy any possibility of a Utopia. While this novel portrays corrupt leadership as the flaw in revolution ...it also shows how potential ignorance and indifference to problems within a revolution could allow horrors to happen if smooth transition to a people's government isn't satisfied.

I read this book a couple of times but I have not read it in a long time, but it was such a good book. Well written, and a good story to it.

I read this every year, and have since the 10th grade (or 1992, whatever). I can't stress enough what an awesome read this is. I think it should be mandatory reading in high school, I really do. If you haven't read it yet, DO IT!

Classic and quick read. Everyone should read it at least once in their life. I read it as a kid, and had a completely different experience as an adult. The undertones of the human condition may have been lost on me as a child. The analogy between pigs and men, as well as the final sentence is brilliant.
