This book is a true inspiration, so much so that it has inspired me, as a writer to engage in a writing project that pretty much pays homage to some of the characters in this wonderful story. In Jane Eyre, author Charlotte Bronte dares to push the envelope a bit further in 19th century England by creating this smart, rebellious, independent-minded woman who always struggles to define herself on her own terms. She doesn't take orders from her aunt, from her caretakers at Lowood, and not even from Rochester himself. This is truly remarkable in the 19th century and Charlotte Bronte presents it all in an eloquently written, well-rounded, compelling, inspirational story. I highly recommend it!

Absolutely wonderful book. Sometimes I sit in the camp who say that the Bronte sisters were superior writers to Austen.
I also sometimes can't decide whether I like Emily or Charlotte best. I feel more blown away by Emily, but feel more akin to Charlotte. Someties I think it is just because she outlived Emily that Charlotte got to write her own press and that's how she earnt more poularity.

But whenever I re-read this book (every few years) I fall in love with it all over again.

Where do I begin? I loved this book, mostly because it felt like I was being told a story more so than actually reading one. It is rare to feel that connected to the character you are learning about. I felt like Jane Eyre was a new friend whose company I enjoyed immensely. And I almost feel as though I have learned about life ,love ,giving, and receiving, and most importantly respect in a way that makes me desire those traits for myself, instead of abhorring the self discipline it must take to contain them, because I have grown to admire Jane's character. Bravo Charlotte Bronte Bravo!

The first 200 pages suck. Really and truly, the book was a burden for the entire week I swamped through its terribly pedantic, frustratingly simpering narration.

After reading 3/4s of the book, it finally got interesting. Maybe that's because you really want it to be redeeming, all that work for nothing, but it does get better. Things start actually happening, plotwise, and you get a really good emotional struggle as well.

I guess I believe this is a classic, but I wonder if perhaps an editor cut out about two hundred pages, it wouldn't be better. Still a classic, but not just a girly romantic, sigh sigh, kind of book, but an actual intense and well done book.

At first I really hated it because we had to read if for school, and I thought it was kind of boring. Well, admittedly, the beginning WAS a bit boring. But, it was necessary to get to know the character of Jane Eyre and know about her life. Then after a while, as we discussed the book, I began to understand it more and I LOVED it! It was so dramatic and insightful. My best friend and I were talking about it as we read on. It really helped to have someone that you could gush and crack up at random Old-English things with. I just really got attached to the book. I loved Jane Eyre's character and morals and the themes in the book. I just loved it. :)

This whole story line follows the bibles "Be" attitudes in the book of Matthew. I did a paper on the fact that Bronte was the daughter of a minister and knew the holy book inside and out. She even introduces the character Rochester in the same chapter that the shriveled hand is mentioned in Matthew. It was fascinating to see how the writer created the parallels. If any one wants to know all the rest - please contact me.

I read this back in high school, and I think I was the only one in the class who liked it. I remember finding it far more appealing than Austin's Pride and Predjudice because it deals with themes of faith and redemption and with the plight of young, unmarried working class women. There are many characters and scenes that I still vividly remember - Jane's first wedding service, the death of her saintly childhood friend, and the ascetic preacher that woos her. I should read this again.

I'm still not very sure that I like this book. It's a weird kind of feminism because Jane felt like she could only be the guy if she knew she was somehow better than him and in charge of the relationship. They couldn't be equal, she had to be above him and I didn't like that.

I had to read this for uni so didn't enjoy it as much as I could have and it took me ages to get through but I do really like the story but not so much from the 'it's a good story' point of view but from a 'this is incredibly written' view. I think both the Bronte sisters were amazing writers, the small details they put throughout their stories draws the reader in the only thing is I got bored of the story itself quite quickly. But like I said, an amazingly well written story with feeling and descriptions one can live in.

My favorite Bronte novel. It is so detailed, I can find new things to appreciate every time I read it again. The story is wonderful, and the characters are extraordinarily compelling. I just have one or two doubts over the medical validity of the ending, but those pale in comparison to the overall narrative!

I don't know what it is about this story but I read it over and over again. Picture a cold winter day with the wind and snow blowing outside, cup of hot tea, cuddled up in a big chair with a cozy blanket and a fire going... Read this book and be totally taken away... But seriously that is just my preference, this is a story of a sad and lonely girl who through challenges and disappointments triumphs and finds love and happiness albeit in gothic form in cold and raining England... Absolutely love this book.

I do admit (as everyone does) that this book is very depressing and dark. Jane Eyre was not the exquisite fem in her times. I do pity her for going through such things through her life. I also hated the fact that she fell for a man who did not love her in return until he was "disabled" or blind. Whatever. It's one read I thought intruiguing. Yup yup. :)

This books is worth reading just to savour Rochester's plea to Jane in Chapter 27 - I have for the first time found what I can trulylove--I have found you. You are my sympathy--my better self--mygood angel. I am bound to you with a strong attachment. I thinkyou good, gifted, lovely: a fervent, a solemn passion is conceivedin my heart; it leans to you, draws you to my centre and spring oflife, wraps my existence about you, and, kindling in pure, powerfulflame, fuses you and me in one.Makes one weak in the knees.

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte is one of the best gothic-romantic novel I have read so far. It is a story of an orphan abandoned by her aunt who survives through all ups and downs of her life and finally manages to get her love back.I loved it so much. Feminism is also one of its themes.Jane is an inspiration to all.

I loved Jane Eyre's strength and will. She was not the typical fragile, dependent female character. Instead, she was someone I could easily relate to. At the same time, I was unhappy with some of her conventional views that demanded she deny herself what would make her happiest. Still, she was a remarkable character for her time.

The novel was very elegant, not exceedingly verbose, and had a delicious sense of mystery and mysticism. It was dark and intense at some points, which sets it apart from much "chick lit," from that time to the present.

I cried several times throughout.
