Reputation for incredibly swashbuckling children's story...I was a bit disappointed considering. But a pleasurable read for sure.

Robert Louis Stevenson (1883): "Treasure Island" I am *really scared*. It can keep me awake at night. What can? The fact that *nobody appears to be scared at all* by this great scary book. It amazes and frightens me. Spend a minute browsing through the other 222 iReviews placed here. They all go as follows: fun book / really loved it / thoroughly enjoyed it / most delightful / positively boyish / loved it / adored it / fun read / &cetera &cetera. What's wrong with the people of today? They're clearly impossible *to scare*, which is extremely scary. I blame the massive entertainment industry, television, video games. Kids grow up today without being properly convinced by even the best literature, which is a total life-time-spoiling shame. They need to learn that some books are there not to "enjoy" or "give you a delightful time", but to *take you by your throat and shake your boots*, to make you shiver in the night. The novel is of course a great one, but I cannot bring myself to put up "four stars" as iRead Ltd. has defined this as being equivalent to "loved it". And one cannot "love" a book that scares your heart, stomach, mind, throat, and messes up your sympathetic nervous system to the level of inflicting Pilo-Erection de Lux Grand Ambassador Cutis Anserina upon its reader.

A really fun, light read. It's easy to see that this book was instrumental in forming many of the ideas commonly held about pirates.

Still a good book today. Watching Silver switch sides was a very interesting political feat! I had this book on the back burner and I'm glad I finally finished it!

I started reading this on my iPhone Kindle app, then switched over to using DailyLit.com but it was always exciting and kept me coming back (which is important when I read books using alternative methods). I loved the details in one scene when Jim is taking back the Hispaniola.
