Who knew that Jenny McCarthy would feel as helpless with her son's diagnosis as I did with mine. I'm grateful for her support!

I have to say that Jenny can be a bit much for me. I avoided this book because I didn't want someone to preach to me about what I should do with my children. At the same time before I judged someone I need to read their story and that I did.

This is a good book. Easy read. I was done in a week and I'm a fairly busy woman!

I loved how honest she was about her feelings and how she viewed her son before he was diagnosed. I actually could relate to thinking my oldest was just smart and eccentric but didn't attribute those characterstics to autism. She did a great job in expressing her journey.

What I didn't like was how much she portrayed herself as the answer. Now I appreciate her drive and want to get the word out and help her son. There was a lot of talk about the answer or meant to be or God talking to her. Too much for me personally. Another thing that sat wrong wtih me was how she talked about the relation to vaccines. Now she didn't go into it specifically which bothered me. If there is a connection she believed with her son why didn't she talk about when she got the vaccine in relation to his problems then his seizures. From her book it sounded like he demonstrated signs from day one and then he regressed around 2. Also she said she had to sign a release form for MMR. I have never heard of that before. That baffled me and wanted her to explain what it said if that was a sign for her that this was going to harm her son.

Just some thoughts after reading the book. Again I enjoyed the read and she is a great author for a casual read.

I really liked this book and would recommend it. Although I listened to it on tape, and Jenny McCarthy swearing is startling when listening. I also fear it might give an unrealistic expectation that autism can be cured...with unlimited resources this story shows kids can make great gains. Unfortunately not all are so lucky to have unlimited resources and access to appropriate treatments.
