Not as impressive as Crime and Punishment, The Idiot or The Brohers Karamazov but fun to read and it's in a different format it's like a story more than a novel. We see some familiar characters also madness, passion, confusion, love, pride and affection throughout the story, it's short and amazing.

It was good. I was hoping it would be a little more auto-biographical. It starts off a little slow, but is worth pushing through to the end to truly gain insight into the mind of a gambler.

The story is interesting but difficult to read because you never get a clue what is the money they bet (how much this really is) and also plenty of french speech, which makes me always look down the page for a translation that doesn't necesserely mean much.

Dostoevsky creates such realistic tension in this novel. The best parts are the gambling scenes when the protagonist gets an erotic thrill from roulette, when he knows he should be quitting. It's a short novel full of power. Dostoevsky wrote it after C

Dostoesvky is the deepest novelist ever. This is a much better introduction to his work that Notes from Underground. The characters are great, there's action, sex, finance and gambling. Great.
