Do NOT judge the past with contemporary or personal values! OK, that said... Plot wise, I confess I like the romanticized 1989 Japanese anime adaptation 'アニメ三銃士 Anime Sanjushi' so much better... But I've known no other novel that's so exhilarating and entertaining at the same time. It's all about the language! All in the description of the major characters! If Alexandre Dumas is so good in English, I can only imagine how amazing the original French was...

Great read. Count of Monte Cristo is still my favorite by Dumas, but this ranks up there as well.
