Read more like a contemporary play (language-wise) than a typical Ludlum novel. While there is a built-in level of sarcastic and sartorial reflection on racial tension, politics and defence operation in the good old USA, the overall plot development is not exactly thrilling.

Like most sequels, not quite as good as the first ("Gandolfo"), but with a familiar cast of primary characters and even more Marx brothers style craziness, this is also a jolly read.

it was quite funny. i never thought ludlum could write a funny novel. but you will get confused with the dialogue sometimes. and sam devereux's character seems so helpless...as exactly portrayed in this story.

If you haven't read this, then you MUST. It shows a radically different side to Ludlum's writing style. The characterization of General Hawkins is such that he'll drag you into rooting for him, as he hatches & executes a most audacious coup. If you haven't read this, then you MUST. Not only because it shows a radically different side to Ludlum's writing, but also for the sheer brilliance of characterization. General Hawkins will force you to not just like him, but also start rooting for him as he plots & executes the most audacious coup in American history.
