Greatly condemned in the US today for the language and attitude towards coloured people but is mearly a product of its time. This book will transport you back to that time and into the minds of those who lived there. As we know from recent Nobel awards, slavery was economically viable. This book shows how human beings make it socially and morally acceptable. This is what we must learn from it. Do not fear that your mind will be changed, it will. It will expand.

This is a fun, funny, and exciting read. Mark Twain has a way of playing with words that keeps the reader amused even if his story were not enough to keep you tuned in - which it is. I read this as an elementary school student and again as an adult and enjoyed it both times.

40 years old, and the first time I've read it - what a great read! Definitely a product of its time but some of the spark and joy of being a kid skip through the pages. And what am I listening to as I write this? Tom Sawyer by Rush, of course!

Was part of compulsory reading in the 3rd grade,and have been in love ever since. What gets me to this day is the simplicity of its narration. Taught me that a piece of work does not have be filled with flowery descriptions or soul searching reflections in order to be entertaining or thought provoking. Three cheers for my alma mater "Rosary Matriculation" for making this compulsory reading !!!!

It is an exciting story about adventures of two boys that never sit home looking for new impressions every day, their heads full of superstitions and horrible tales. They find troubles everywhere they go but they always able to find the right way back from grot or to be rescued from dangerous people. They like freedom of the streets and hate stuffy closes they have to wear on sundays going to the church. These boys have a very interesting and colorful life.

Another high school book. I liked how this book flowed, I guess. Easy to read in that sense, harder to read in the style sense.

One of the best novels I first read as a child and still love as an adult. You can't beat Mark Twain. Everyone should read this if you haven't already. Beats the heck out of the Grapes of Wrath. haha.

I find this book rather boring. It was definitely a disappointment after having read Tom Sawyer and Mark Twain's short stories :-)

Long considered to be The Great American Novel, this classic portrayal of the ante-bellum South studies the "peculiar institution" of slavery and the issue of race from a child's perspective. It is very revealing of how low our educational standards have fallen when people today ban this great work from the classroom because they think it is racist due to its language when the story is explicitly against racism. Every American should read this book.

Rating: Three and a half stars - almost four. Mark Twains classic story of a boy who is both easy to 'love' and 'hate', at the same time. Twains description of individuals around Tom is truly interesting, gripping and humoristic. We are presented a multitude of individual stories about people who fight for their existense, conflicts between them and so forth. It's a book easy to read and one is constantly thrown back and forth between different emotions in connection to the main character and the surronding characters.
