beautiful classic of yesteryear..the book talks about various shades of women..A woman who wants to marry her daughters to rich men irrespective of the girls wishes and wants....a daughter trying to follow her mother's wish..the other one not wanting to put down her standards and thus do not want to get trapped in her mother's artificial world...a father who finds himself helpless in front of his wives ruthless and nagging behavior...the book shows different shades with romance, humour and women power along with their flaws...lovely book indeed!!!

There are too many amazing things to say about the brilliant Jane Austen and Pride and Prejudice. I am onto my second copy and have made week over fifteen visits to Longbourne and the trials of Ms. Elizabeth Bennet during the past 18 years. There is nothing so good as her acerbic wit and crazy families and relations. Truly a pleasure read each time you sit down, assuming you enjoy 18th Century English. Do read it. It's a good yarn that you will forevermore consider to be a good friend!

this is definately one of my favorite books of all time, im not 100% sure on why, but i think the fact that i watched the movie ( the origional 5 episode one) like 12 times before i read it had to do somthing with it... basically a story about a woman trying to marry off her 4 daughters before her husband dies (even though he is healthy) so that they don't end up losing their house. anf then theres the main couple that the whole story goes aroudn and how their 'pride' and 'prejudice' towards one-another kinda mixes everything up but in the end it all works out, this is afterall, a classic.

My review for this Novel is: When i read it this, first i hated Mr. Darcy cause he was very proud of himself but when i continued to read it more & more i found it that he was very gentleman & very sensitive cause he love very much his sister Giogiana. About Miss Elizabeth i found her that she judge the person from the first impression & in this little thing i do not agree with Miss Elizabeth. MR. & Mrs. Bennet i think they are pushy espacially her Mom. In The End, find the novel very interesting cause in our time we can be very proud & misjudge to others & this is a very bad thing in human being.

Well, on the bright side, rereading Pride and Prejudice has made me understand once again why exactly Jane Eyre is my favorite novel.

All modern romantic comedies are simply cheap imitations of this timeless masterpiece. Jane Austen's observation and wit are fantastic and the characters are so lifelike you feel you know them in person. The strange thing about this book is that it doesn't read like a book written 200 years ago. It stills feels fresh, modern and socially relevant today and every girl can identify with Elizabeth Bennet. This is definitely one of the best love stories ever written.

I think it has been 30 years so I thought I should read it again before reading the new P.D. James, Death comes to Pemberley. What a great read - soap opera, love story, silly characters, obnoxious characters, and wonderful characters. Glad I came back to it.

Few have failed to be charmed... this is how most official reviews of this book start, and I have to join in line here! This is my first time reading this book, although I have been meaning to for a long time. Yes, it is romantic, but mainly it's fun! And it actually says quite a bit about the way people were, still are and probably always will be. I love the language, and feel sad that we don't talk and write like that any more. There's a very good reason that this novel is a classic, the themes are universal, so if you haven't read it yet - do!

I've listened to the first 15 chapters and I must say I love Jane Austen's humor. Why didn't someone tell me I should have read her years ago?

I have heard it said that the only way to understand the female psyche is to read Austen. And although my understanding of the fairer sex has not improved in the slightest (after having read this)I have to reluctantly admit I throughly enjoyed this book.

Althoughg the genre is not one that I would normally read, I was impressed by Austen's writing style and the believabilty of her narrative and characters. An accesible novel and regarded by many as one of the timeless examples of great British ficition available to the modern reader.

This really is one of the best books in the English language. Though it is a romance novel it is so much more than that. Taking place in the 19th century it tell the tale of a strong woman in a time when women were subdued and men had all the power. Austen manages to reel you in from the very first page and her description of both the time and the characters is realistic and it feels as if you personally know them all, feeling warmth and sympathy to some and annoyance and distgust at others. The way she shows how these people all had individual personalities is fascinating, but in this story you can see how women played their roles well

Read "Pride and Prejudice" in high school with Mr. Thurston (English Literature). I remember class discussions tearing this book apart line by line. I read pretty much for pleasure and hated all the underlying meanings. This was a dreary, dark book. And I am glad that I read it.

Austen excels at creating real, believable characters. And she does it mostly with dialogue. Very little action.

There is nothing exciting about the novel. I realize this is not necessarily a love story; it is a bildungsroman. But there is no kissing and not even holding of hands. Austen refers to a tete-a-tete as "being intimate." Dry dry dry.

At times, the humor is clever. These ladies surely knew how to use the English language to their advantage, whether it be congratulating, thanking or even insulting.

A thousands times, yes. My go to book for any occasion. I am not writing reviews these are comments. I love this book because it truly is timeless.

I am only sorry that more amazing artists are not recognized in their own time. But, for Austen, time only seems to garner her more and more fans.

Any girl who reads this book wants to meet her Mr. Darcy.
This is my favorite of all Jane's books. And since the movies release--quite popular.

It's just such a wonderful human tale. And so utterly romantic as well. I think it beats all.

Pride and Prejudice always will be one of the best works in the romantic genre. Its chaste old-world romance sprinkled with witty repartee and some delicious sparring with a slight feminist undercurrent, made it a template for all future romance novels. And the fact that Jane Austen created probably the most perfect man in the world(fiction or otherwise) in William Darcy is motivation enough to read it!Read Pride and Prejudice for its wittiness, its simplicity (wherein lies its charm), for Elizabeth's strength, for Darcy being Darcy, and for its fuzzy-warmth-spreading-to-the-toes ending and lastly to make yourself wish and hope for an ever after too. :)

I loved it! It's my favourite of all Jane Austen's novels, as I know it is for many people. I love her wit & satire, & I found it a very intelligent book that didn't preach at anyone yet still told a good story with morality thrown in. I saw the 1996 BBC/A&E movie version, which is one of my all-time favourite movies, & it got me hooked onto this book & onto Jane Austen. Hmm! I should read it again once I finish the other books I have on the go! :D

what a fabulously sweet/innocent love story! it was pretty difficult to get used to the "language barrier" so to speak, but once I got into a rhythm I was finally able to appreciate it. couldnt help but be amazed at how old the story is...what would jane austin think about her lovely book being read for the first time nearly 200 years later!? im so plseased this was the first (of hopefully many) of the classics ive read so far!

Most of you already know the story. Many movie adaptations have been made. You probably even saw one recently. But there is something about knowing the story in its original format that is quite ... charming.

The book is pretty much all talk and gossip, but it still manages to be incredibly fast paced (ironic), and sooner than you know you have finished the book and are already trying to scrounge up more of Jane Austen's books. I have to say, that one knows how to write.

Just read it, you won't regret it. It's much better than Twilight, and you read that, so what are you waiting for?

Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice is a beacon of light in the world of novels. Many people term her book a romance, which is true in the modern sense, but not true in terms of what modern people think of romance. This is not love at first sight or passionate sexual attraction, but something deep and abiding that will last. This is a story about love developing between two people over time, overcoming first impressions, and truly looking at what is important in the person you wish to spend all your days with.

That said, not only is Jane a master of plot, but her characters are so vividly drawn that I feel as if I could meet one of them and recognize who they are. Jane plumbs the depth of the soul and delivers light hearted laughs at the same time. Read it!
