 Pride and Prejudice:

A novel about love and marrige,in this(Five marriages takes place) the story moves around the two characters Elizabeth and Darcy .Elizabeth a literary has prejudice
and Darcy a wealthy person has Pride.Their true love after a dramatic time ends in a happy marrige, along with the other four who are sisters to Elizabeth.

My view :
A novel to be read before marriage. It is also a lesson for those lovers who fail to respond to true love due to shyness.

I am completely in love with this book and everything Austen! I can really not even begin to outline my affection for this writer or her novels, whose timeless critiques on and perceptions of society have made them so enjoyable as to be even more popular 200 years later than they were in their own day! Though our use of language and our cultural expectations have undoubtedly changed, how similar still are the basic wishes and desires of us all as humans- and nothing can compare to the brilliance and keenness of observation that Austen writes about them with!

Pride and Prejudice is one of my favorite books, one to be read again and again. Jane Austen's heroine, Elizabeth Bennett, meets her match, Mr. Darcy, and marries well without compromising her principles.

Probably one of the greatest love stories ever told. Elizabeth Bennet has to be the strongest female protagonist in the history of literature. In 18th century England, Elizabeth and her four sisters were never destined to amount to much, as their family was poor, and it was a debilitating factor in the hopes of them finding a respectable husband. Elizabeth, however, was different, and she knew hat she didn't need a man to be happy in life. However, love eventually finds her in the most peculiar and hateful form of Mr. Darcy. I loved the relationship between Elizabeth and Darcy because it was never perfect, not the typical love story most read about.

While her stories are not earth shattering or life changing, they are quite good in my opinion because they create sound pictures in mind and evoke universal empathic emotions of love found and lost (and then found again). Not every book is required to change your life, put you to your knees, or even help you discover something new. I think that she remains so popular and read because of her universal themes. Who doesn’t like a good love story? As the book promises to provide- I loved the delicious social comedy, the unerring dialogue and its enchantingly-spirited heroine.

If you want to be throughly delighted read this and all of Jane Austen's books. This woman's books are amazing. She was so far ahead of her time. I never get tired of reading and re-reading her books. She has to be one of the greatest authors of all time. It is just a tragedy that she died so young. I can just imagine what other treasures she may have wrote had she more time.

This is a wonderful book. I love all the insight the author added to Miss Austen's work. Some things I may not necessarily agree with but it's neat to see another persons opinion. I must say it does slow you down a bit if you read every single annotation like I have. I would have been done with this book weeks ago if I was only reading the book. But they make it just that much more entertaining to read. :)

Although It's the best of Jane Austen's Books I think her way of percieving the world is really limited. Even Though My Literature Teacher would strangle me ... I am still think we should rather have studied Charles Dickens than Jane Austen... and Instead of Northanger Abbey she could at least have Picked Pride and Prejudice.

Probably the best book I have ever read by far! Jane Austen's wit, humor, and irony flies off the page!! Even on its third reading, the laugh out loud humor is still there. Her characters, especially Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy, are so vivid and real that readers feel as if they are Elizabeth and courting Mr. Darcy. Having read the book several times, I still wonder if they will end up together. I can't help falling in love with the characters over and over again!!

Excellent book!! It took me quite a while untill I dared to approach it. Being a Classic I expected it to be boring and not easy to read. It is not boring at all!!
As I'm not a native speaker it was definitely a challenge to read but in the end I love the florid language and the complicated sentences.
(Well, maybe watching the 5 hour BBC movie between purchasing and reading the book helped a little...)
Is it possible that the english language had a lot more syllables at that time?

I didn't care to read the book until I saw (and loved) the 2006 adaption by Joe Wright (starring Keira Knightley). The book is pure romanticism - no strings attached. It explores love in it's various versions - parental, sisterly, and romantic love, as can be seen in the lives of the wonderful Bennett family. What I appreciate the most about this book is how it gives these types of love equal weight in the book. It uses each of them as components of what a life lived to the full should be comprised of... brotherhood (or sisterhood), filial piety, and tenderness of heart.

The best love story of all time. A bit confusing if you don't know the story, so I recommend watching one of the movie versions first. IMHO, the BBC version is the best. The language is also a bit difficult to understand, and a lot of that is how indirectly the characters often state their purpose. Each read is a new experience to discover more and more the characters because of this. If you are a romance reader, this is one of the best.

Read for my reading group and I can't believe I've got to 45 years of age before reading a Jane Austen novel. It is now one of my favourite books of all time. The BBC series of a few years back has implanted Colin Firth in my mind as Mr Darcy and I can't shake it off! I only discovered on reaching the end of the book that the lake scene was created solely for the series and wasn't in the book.
Read it for my reading group and can't believe I have got to 45 years of age without reading any of Jane Austen's novels. It is now one of my favourite books of all time and I want to read all her other books. The BBC series of a few years back has had such an impact on me though (and I suspect a few others) that I can't think of Mr Darcy without thinking of Colin Firth and I didn't realise (until the end of the book) that the lake scene was created solely for the TV series and doesn't appear in the book.

i am not a huge fan of Austen. but d book ideally represents d pathetic condition of the women, especially those who do not hv gr8 fortunes 4 demselves, of the Romantic era. it seems dey were raised wid d sole purpose of gettin fallin in love wid a well-off man n gettin married. an ideal book 2 know d upper middle class life of England.
OK. A typical, conventional depiction of the pathetic condition of women during Romantic Age. Did not like it much coz m not a gr8 fan of Austen

So deeply conscious yet again of the British class system at her time of life, and of the politics and snobbery that resided therein. This book whips the reader into a positive frenzy of defense for the girls who are so maligned and the unfair system that all monies and property are automatically left to a male heir! A great read. Who is actually proud, and who is prejudiced...
This is a lovely book to read, on a day when you just want to rest, and not have to think too much. The humour and the bitter sweeet romance, leads you to the classic happy ending.

I finally steeled myself to sit down and read one of the original works of Chick Lit without high hopes. Upon finishing it I was thinking "So THAT's why there's so much love for this book!"

It is a very pleasant read indeed. It feels like the blueprint for every romcom ever written, and still reads well despite being a couple of centuries old. Well worth it!

This is my favorite book of all time! Austen is at her acme point of brilliancy in this literature classic. Elizabeth Bennett is a spirited, independent, and strong-willed woman whom many such as myself admire and can relate to. Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy, though at first arrogant and abrupt, transforms into this sexy, sensitive, and heroic soul whom every girl wants to ride off into the sunset with. Throughout the entire story, the reader wonders whether Darcy's pride of rank and prejudice against Elizabeth's family and Elizabeth's pride of self-respect and prejudice against Darcy's haughty exterior can be overcome?

A great romance based upon the main character's preconceived notion of whom and what the other is and the clash of their egos. Lizzie is way ahead of her time and a sassy woman. Can't help but love her.

Note to readers: if you love the book, don't bother with the Kiera Knightly version of the film. It contains none of the "pride" or "prejudice" which makes the story so compelling.

i liked this one way better than Emma. it's also an extremely tedious read, but when Mr. Darcy finally professes his love to Elizabeth things somewhat pick up. in all honesty, my favorite parts were the interactions between Darcy and Lizzy. and imagining Matthew Macfadyen as Darcy the whole time REALLY helped... because he was super hot as Darcy in the movies. just sayin'.

Elizabeth Bennet is the perfect Austen heroine: intelligent, generous, sensible, incapable of jealousy or any other major sin. That makes her sound like an insufferable goody-goody, but the truth is she's a completely hip character, who if provoked is not above skewering her antagonist with a piece of her exceptionally sharp -- but always polite -- 18th century wit.
