Robert Ludlum is an excellent writer. His books are incredibly complex, with long, drawn-out plots, realistic dialogue, clever plot twists, and incredible characters. This book is no exception.

Ludlum at his best. Read this book several times and I enjoyed it everytime. Very exciting too.

By the end of this book, I sort of fell in love with the character of Joel Converse. Tough guy, tough lawyer and a successful one at that! Recently divorced from his wife, Valerie, it turns out that once he gets himself entangled in a monstrous plot to take over the world via the ideal of "Aquitaine" we find him going to the one and only person whom he can trust and whom he is certainly in love with still--his ex-wife. Together, he and Valerie succeeds in stopping the plot and bringing the antagonists to justice. In this heart-stopping and exciting ordeal, Joel realizes that he still loves his wife and asks her to re-marry him. And Valerie realizes in the end that Joel is and always will be her "only darling" and she accepts his proposal. I never thought that Ludlum could intertwine a little bit of love story in his action-packed and mysterious plots.
