Much like its predecessor, Snow Crash, The Diamond Age took a bit to really get into. However, once hooked, the novel was a constant companion - peeks were sneaked whenever I had a spare moment. Though this novel is relatively information-dense, the depth of Stephenson's world is awe inspiring, and once the fundamentals are grasped the book reads fairly smoothly. For all you Cyberpunk, Sci-Fi, Dys/Utopian novel fans: get this book.

It's good - I remember a weird mix of future 'China on the rise', retro Victorian values and nanotechnology...
...get the feeling Stephenson's a bit too fond of the Victorian worldview though.

Just a brilliant novel. A very intelligent analysis of a post-nano world, and an analysis of psychological/sociological development.

Beguiling view of the future. I always enjoy how Neal Stephenson does not explain everything as it comes, but immerses you in the culture he's created. Great storytelling, but overall, I got the impression that he enjoyed telling the story much more than finishing it, as the ending felt rushed compared to the rest of the tale.

My favorite from Neal. It's better than "Snow Crash," IMHO.

I was interested by Stephenson's rendering of future technology, and would love a primer of my own, but couldn't get into the story. The end leaves too many open questions. What will Nell do with the Mouse Army? Will Miranda be pleased that Nell saved her? Does the Seed finally come to fruition? I hope Stephenson writes a sequel; otherwise his carefully developed story falls flat.

I loved the Diamond Age, which I like to call by its subtitle, "A Young Lady's Illustrated Primer". This is a far-future masterpiece. The setting is so exotic, and yet so realistic that I wonder at Stephenson's imagination. I like the struggle of the young poor girl; I like the emptiness of the elite Victorians' lives; I like the actress who develops a mother's love for her client. I am so happy George Clooney did not get a chance to ruin this one on the planned miniseries!
