An excellent sequel to House Atreides, this novel really sets up the characters of Dune with an interesting plot delivered in a smoother collaboraton between the authors than its predecessor.

Brian Herbert's one redeaming feature is that he is publishing stories based upon his father's notes. But the writing is TERRIBLE and he lacks his father's sense of subtlety and nuance. If Frank Herbert is a surgeon, slicing through societies layers with a scalpel, Brian Herbert is a loudmouth guy in a bar wearing a message-T. (sorry Brian)

Easily a much better novel than its predecessor. The amount of character development and the manipulation going on between all the individual characters makes this a much more emotionally-driven episode in the Dune Saga. People who continue to deny these books their rightful place in the series because they are supposedly "not up to the standard" set by Frank Herbert should re-read the originals. There is only one real difference in narrative style: Frank just tends to let us know what individuals are thinking more often, but that's about it.

Just as good as the previous sequel, and I can't wait to get on to the last one, House Corrino. It's so interesting to find out what all the characters in the first Dune novel are up to years before we first met them in that breakthrough novel. The inside information on how they got to be in their positions, who these people really are, their backgrounds... it's all fantastic. Great read, highly recommend this prequel series to all Dune fans.

I found this book, as with all the books in the series written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J Anderson sadly lacking real substance. If you read the original Dune series by Frank Herbert then you'll find this book a watered down version and a real disappointment.

Following up on the events in House Artreides, this part is better told, but still a bit predictable.Still, a must to read for all true Dune-fans, but do not except the genius narrative authoring of Frank Herbert.

Totally sadistic. The authors just take the characters they build and develop through the book and kill them in most atrocious ways. Frank Herbert(R.I.P) used to do it in more delicate way.

Terrible. An affront to all things good about Dune. Taken independently from the originals, only a mildly average book, nothing to write home about.
