A good end to the Hyperion series, it does wrap a lot of things up. It has a somewhat bitter sweet ending which will put you through an emotional rollercoster when you're reading it. Overall a good book, but I do wish the origins of the Shrike and more mysteries about the technocore were explained in more detail. You get really tired of the dialog between Anea and Raul with her going, "I'll explain another time." It also gets slow at a few points when it goes on about details of the catholic church, but so does Endymion.

Fantastic end to the series. In a lot of ways it telegraphs everything that is bad about the way that Peter Hamilton writes as a contrast. It does feel a little long, but there is a very satisfying drawing together of threads that stretch back to Hyperion.Epic SF as it should be written.

I'm just going to start off by saying that this book is the perfect conclusion to the Hyperion series. Simmons is able to tie everything that has happened throughout the series into once nice package. The downside to this is that the foreshadowing is huge and pretty easy to recognize, but there are still surprises to be had. If you've read the 3 other books, then obviously you have to read this, just don't read it first.
