A great follow-up to Assassin's Apprentice. This story is not about amazing magic and killing powerful monsters, but is about the intrigue of court life. This story goes into the details of everyday life and is very well written. The characters are great and the pacing and suspense are expertly done.

I read the Tawny Man Trilogy before this one, so I knew what was coming, and that may have made it slightly less exciting.

That being said I certainly enjoyed the book. The main character, FitzChivalry, was caught between his duties to the King and King-in-Waiting and his personal desires for his own life. It was nice to have Nighteyes at Fitz's side and Ketricken is a very strong character. The Fool however really takes a back seat.

Fitz is a realistic character, with many shortcomings and much self-doubt.

Very solid second instalment of a palatable series. Hobbs knows what she is good at and never reaches beyond herself. She has a knack for creating characters you can't help but pull for. Manageable cast of players, focussed narrative and, though she doesn't break any new ground, she tells a good story damn it. That's all I ask for really.

What a let down at the end. I enjoyed the whole series right up to the last two chapters of this book and then bla... Started wondering if there was another book and this was an quartet instead of a trilogy, because I was waiting for the climatic event to begin, but there was nothing and it ended with such a let down that I don't think I will be reading any more of this authors books.

This is Book 2 of the Farseer Trilogy, meaning it’s the middle of the story and I felt that it was noticeable, which is why I gave it four stars instead of five. At times I felt that the story dragged a touch – only slightly, in a couple of places. However, this doesn’t mean the storyline is lacking or that the characters weren’t deeply woven together. In fact, I still believe firmly that a lot could be learned by studying the way the author developed the storylines of all the characters and the plot in this trilogy.

Each time I thought to myself “enough, move on” it was almost as if the author had planned it exactly to happen in that way, because there was always a sudden change that would draw me deeper into the plot, grasp me firmer. And the plot for this trilogy is complex. There are twists and turns in the story that a reader could not believe possible. The ending of this book left me feeling somewhat disturbed, yet I had seen it coming but I still wasn’t prepared for it. I put the book down and couldn’t stop thinking about what had happened. Part of me wanted to reject it, yet another part of me embraced it wholeheartedly. It was the strangest feeling and testament that the story as a whole had an affect on me.

A good book pulls you in and holds you firmly within the storyline. For me, this story (I’m talking about book one and two) wasn’t just words on paper; it was people and places coming alive around me. Just as the characters in the book had to make alliances and fight for survival; I felt as if I was another character struggling for survival along side them. To become so absorbed by the plot and so totally bonded with the characters tells me that the author did her job well.

This book, no, this trilogy, is highly recommended.

This book stirred a whole range of emotions - frustration a lot of the time, in empathising with Fitz's many and varied predicaments, and towards the end, great sadness, at how he is treated and how he is saved. A few times I wanted to put it down, it gets quite tiresome when you see Fitz come up against obstacle after obstacle, but the intricately woven plots and the incredibly descriptive way Hobb writes keeps you going back for more...

"Royal Assassin" is a worthy sequel to its predacessor "Assassin's Apprentice". This is where our charming young hero Fitz really comes into his own in his strange little world where he is caught between the royal family with whom he can never quite truly bond and his duty as the court assassin.

The fantasy and plot continue to strengthen in this amazing novel, and open us up to an entirely new world outside the palace walls where Fitz grows into more than he ever dreamed possible.

The characters are wonderful, and the entire book vibrates with intense mystery and passionate love.

I don't read a heck of a lot of fantasy, but this is certainly worth reading! Incredible!

 A feeling of helplessness.

This is the second book in the Farseer trilogy (following Assassin's Apprentice and followed by Assassin's Quest).

In the Mountain Kingdom, Fitz is slowly recovering from poisoning, when he has a Skill dream. Seeing through King Shrewd's eyes, he witnesses the Forging of the town of Siltbay, where lives his childhood friend Molly, whom he's secretly always been in love with. Has Molly been Forged too, is she dead, or alive but in great danger? He has to find out.

In Buckkeep, Prince Regal's ambition is soaring, and he will gain access to the throne of the Six Duchies by all means. And King-in-wainting Verity is too busy Skilling in his tower to protect the kingdom from the Forging raids of the Red Ships, and the old king's strength is slowly leaving him. Even with the help of Verity's new Queen-in-waiting Kettricken, who decides to take up arms and attack the Raiders, and Fitz's new Bond with a wolf cub, the situation grows more and more hopeless.

In this middle volume, unexpected alliances are forged and treacheries unmasked. With the pressure of Regal's treasons building up, the story becomes richer and steadily gathers momentum, and I was compelled to keep turning the pages.

So imagine a fantasy universe that can justify the point of Nobility and Kings and all that. She uses the force (skill) and a sort of beast talk (wit, totally separate) to make it all work. It gets decently confusing towards the end, but it does END THE TRIOLOGY, which rocks. This series is great because each book, she re-evaluates the actions in the previous book from basically new perspectives of the characters, because people change and they could have made wiser decisions. This world tries to take modern issues, perspectives, into this world.Read the series! It's not entirely bad!
