It felt like Koontz rushed through writing the book just so he could get done with the trilogy and move on. The characters seemed more shallow in this book than in the two previous books, and the ending was predictable and quite unmoving. But Koontz's sharp prose kept me in awe, so I give this book 3 stars.

After waiting forever for this book to come out, I was very, very disappointed. This has to be the worst book he has ever written. It was like he just threw stuff together just to get it done. What was up with the Jocko thing? That was just stupid. Still have Relentless to read, hope that is a better read.

I loved this series but like so many other of Dean Koont's books, it had an extremely weak ending. The humor is terrific as are the characters -- you find your sympathies extended to the most unlikely individuals. Not my favorite Koontz book but I don't consider it time wasted.

Read it as soon as it came out, glad to hear it was not just me that thought he rush it, not worth the wait. Of all his books this was the hardest to finish.
Maybe I just had high hopes after reading the first 2 a couple of times.
Either way he is still my favorite Author.

This was terrible. I read all three thinking it would turn around. Very disappointing what a terrible trilogy. I expected better from Koontz.

**Spoilers** I want to call this a rather… disappointing finale to what was otherwise a great trilogy. But I’m not sure that’s the right word here. It’s more… anticlimactic than disappointing. First, we find out that members of Frankenstein’s “New Race” are coming back to life after they’ve been killed. Cool, okay, I’m down with that. It’s raising the stakes and making the task for Carson, Michael, and Deucalion all the more difficult – and made me anxious to see what twist Koontz was going to come up with to help the three of them defeat them all. And then it turns out the “twist” is… they all turn good. Well, maybe not “good,” exactly, but they want to help Carson, Michael, and Deucalion bring down Frankenstein! Apparently some higher force, through a bolt of lightning, brought them all back to life and also made them realize that their creator is evil and that they don’t have to kill everyone of the “Old Race” to achieve happiness. Doesn’t this just seem a little too convenient? So Frankenstein ends up going down (much too quickly – they just bury him in some garbage and electrocute him! What happened to all the torture they were going to put him through?) and the New Race, because they are linked to him, just drop down dead. As I said, kind of anticlimactic, no? I will admit, there is a rather good twist at the end that somewhat makes up for it, but for the most part, it was just OK. Not to discredit what Koontz did with the Frankenstein story – I found it rather intriguing that the maker becomes the monster while the once-monster becomes more of a man. I think Koontz has achieved some really great storytelling with his trilogy… I just wish the finale had packed more of a punch.

pretty much had too after getting hooked by the 1st two in this series more than 5 years ago, so about friggin' time he released this one post Katrina. Not quite as interesting as the 1st two novels, centered on the oft-repeated topic of the need for the soul of humanity that has practically been put to death already... manmade monsters in this case vs. vampires, zombies, AI robots, communists, catholics etc. Always good for Koontz's frenetic writing style

Dean Koontz's Frankenstein: Dead and Alive is the shocking conclusion to the re-imaging of the classic Mary Shelly novel.

Dean Koontz's Frankenstein: Dead and Alive does a wonderful job of tying up all of the loose ends from the first two novels, as well as introducing even more characters, bringing back old favorites, and even has it's own semi-cliffhanger ending.

From the first page until the final epilogue chapter we are drawn into the final days of the epic fight to stay alive. Victor's creations are falling apart, the mysterious being that exploded from Harker returns, and the return of Erika Four is one that isn't soon to be forgotten.

What Koontz has done with his re-imaging of the classic has brought it fully into the technologica twenty first century in a way that few could have ever thought was possible and created a whole new mythology that fits rather well with the established.

This whole series is a must read for fans of Dean Koontz, Mary Shelly, science fiction, or thrillers. If you ain't taken the ride yet don't you think it's about time you have?

Like many Koontz books, the ending leaves room for further speculation and opportunity for sequels. Fun to read, the dialogue between main characters and between New Race minor characters is often a hoot - kind of like Abbott and Costello. It won't win a Pulitzer, but it's still a good read if you've read the first two books of the trilogy, read the original Frankenstein, or seen any Frankenstein movies.

Horrible! Worst ending in the history of bad endings.

Where on EARTH did he get this from? Seriously... cells sending messages to satellites???? Curing Autism with a touch???

This book negates anything good about the first two and makes you realize that half or more of the characters involved in the series were useless to the final plot.

Made me feel like I wasted my time reading the series.

I found myself quite literally ANGRY with how badly this book ended.

It was like plucking things out of the air and throwing them all together.

Just a rotten, rotten ending that was totally insulting to the reader's intelligence.

Dean Koontz's Frankenstein: Dead and Alive- not as good as the first two. Very disappointing climax, super fast resolution. It was as if Mr. Koontz got bored with writing. Maybe he should have started it a few years ago instead of procrastinating so long.

There were a few great additions to the story, Jocko, Chameleon, but mostly the peripheral characters all fell short of interesting.

Wow, what a horrendous ending to a series that started out good. To start, the book had about ten pages worth of Koontz's acclaims before you could get to the story. Its almost as if he was trying to prove something, and in doing so, lost sight of how to write a decent story. He also had no co-authors for this edition of the trilogy and maybe that's why it was so different as the coauthors must have been pulling all the weight before. There are two books that come before this, and they're both pretty good, and the series should be read in order. For those unfamiliar with the tale (and possibly a spoiler, you are warned), Deucalion (Frankenstein's monster) has discovered his creator still lives and is in New Orleans. He travels there and discovers that Victor has created many more beings and they are slowly taking over the city. Cops Michael and Carson have been trailing a serial killer and when they meet Deucalion, they realize there's a much bigger threat to the city in the form of Victor's creations and the penchant they have started to have for going out of control and crazy. They struggle to keep alive despite assassins and bring us to this book, Dead and Alive.

Dead and Alive takes place shortly after the 2nd book and there is so much going on and it's all over the place that its hard to describe the plot. Carson and Michael drive around a lot and meet up with Deucalion when they discover there's something at the dump that could help them out in ways unimaginable. Mostly the book focuses on Victor and his creations that are losing their minds and going against their programming.

The characters were horrendous in this book. We barely see the main characters of Deucalion, Michael, and Carson, which is surprising considering they were the main focus in the first two books. Victor goes even more and more unbelievable, and his creations are even stranger. There is a glimmer of light in Jocko, but really, his character didn't actually fit with the story.

The writing was pretty awful as well. Koontz jumps all over the place and adds things that don't need adding. He also unleashes a pretty big, definitely inappropriate, deux ex machina in his story that just made me groan and shake my head in disbelief. But hey, at least there weren't too many pop culture references in this book (something that drives me nuts in the first two). This book abounds with tons of gore and violence and murders and may be a little too much for more sensitive readers.

This book definitely doesn't inspire me to go read anything else by Koontz for awhile. Its amazing that he could take such a good series and turn it into a deplorable book like this.
